BREAKING FREE FROM ANY BONDAGE--Fasting Is The Bondage Breaker For Christians
Insightful author and pastor John Piper says, "The greatest enemy of hunger for God is not poison but apple pie. It is not the banquet of the wicked that dulls our appetite for Heaven, but endless nibbling at the table of the world. It is not the x-rated video, the prime-time dribble of triviality we drink in every night. For all the evil Satan can do, when God describes what keeps us from the banquet of His love, it is a piece of land, a yoke of oxen, and a wife (Luke 14:18-20) The greatest adversary of love to God is not His enemies but His gifts. And the most deadly appetites are not for the poison of evil, but for the simple pleasures of earth. For when these replace an appetite for God Himself, the idolatry is scarcely recognizable and almost incurable".
Are you incurably hungering after God or this world? Are you incurably delighting in God's Word or trivial pursuits? The greatest destroyers of intimate hunger for God may be things that are good and right in their places like coffee and lawns and hobby and travel and retirement planning and mall walking and TV watching and computer mastering. But any that take God's first place, and become easier to turn to than God and His Word and His intimate communion, are then deadly destroyers of our hungering and thirsting after God.
So the Kingdom of God, the reign of God as Supreme over all of our lives is our goal in fasting. We want Him to rule our appetites not us, we want Him to rule our affections not us, we want Him to rule over our choices not us. We want God's Rule in this church, not ours. His goals, not ours. That is the test, that is seeking 1st the Kingdom, the Glory, the Rule, the Supremacy of our Father in Heaven. Then we come before Him seeking His Glory not ours in praying, asking and fasting it changes how we pray.
Now when we ask for Him to lead us into the conquest of those old habits that grip and enslave us, the roadblocks that stand in our path to spiritual maturity - it is so that He may rule in our lives and be glorified.
When we cry out for wayward or unconverted children or spouses to come back maturity - it is so that He may rule in our lives and be glorified.
When we prepare for growth and plan for needs in our church as we fast and pray - it is so that He may rule in our church and be glorified.
How did the 1st Century saints live that way and we so often don't? Do you remember from our study of 1st Thessalonians a couple years ago, what was the heartbeat of the early church? Expecting Christ's Return. Do we ever grow weary and lessen that passion? Yes. So what is Christ's way to get us to long for His Coming? Look for His coming? Wait for His Coming? Stop eating, fast, deny ourselves, feel the pain of deprivation, and show our allegiance to Him (demonstrated in fasting) as higher than even life (demonstrated in eating). Think with me about these verses, and ask yourself, do you really long for Jesus every day? If not, fasting is for you!
One of the key attitudes we find displayed by God's saints is that they were exiles on earth and citizens of Heaven. This produced not a detachment from earthly life or other people, rather it led to such a lacking of love for things that these early saints actually had abundant time to love and seek and win their neighbors. Think of all the time we spend gathering, protecting, and caring for our THINGS. Then think of what value collecting, protecting, and caring will have in Heaven at Christ's Throne versus the same time, energy, and strength poured out in loving passion for the souls of our neighbors.

To understand the Bible, the Plan of God for the FUTURE, and where His people fit, we need to see what God is still doing with His people, The Lord’s People in the Lord’s Land.
Please open to Revelation 12:1-6, 13-17.
In these short verses, we see the infernal strategy of Satan to devour, destroy, and defeat God’s plan and His people. It is only one verse of a Bible full of pictures of Satan the Destroyer of God’s people of Promise, The Jews!
1. When Satan heard the promise of “the seed of the woman” in Genesis 3 he immediately tried to ruin God's Word by having Cain kill Abel.
2. Seth was later born and started the godly line of promise so Satan’s infernal plan was to try to inbreed demons with the godly line and totally corrupt the line of Messiah, so God saved the last pure family and drowned everyone else.
3. Satan followed the line and lured Abram into moon god worship (the same moon god as Islam worships today) and thought he won, but God called Abram and he obeyed God.
4. Then Satan’s infernal strategy was to get Abram impatient and thereby to get the line defiled by Hagar the Egyptian, but God picked the son of promise as the second born (like Seth, Jacob, and so on).
5. Then the famine drove Israel to Egypt where Satan tried to kill the male children as they were born, to destroy the nation, so God killed every 1st born and led His people out in triumph.
6. Then the successive waves of Canaanites, Philistines, Arameans, Assyrians, Ethiopians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans came and tried to do Satan’s infernal bidding.
7. After the Dispersion no people group has ever experienced the horrors of pogroms, extermination attempts, and outright oppression like God’s People the Jews.
8. Then Hitler arrived and came within a couple of years of wiping out over half of all the Jews and their homeland!
9. But today we see an even more deadly scenario. The world is slowly lining up behind the notion that the Nation of Israel has no right to exist as a distinct entity. In the recent speeches of Arab leaders, we see a growing drumbeat of hatred and a desire for the extinction of God’s Chosen People of Promise.

From those early days after Creation, when Adam sinned and all of mankind to follow also fell into sin: God made a way for mankind to come back. The way back was to worship Him by a substitutionary, sacrificial, blood-sprinkled, way.
The key to understanding all of world history since the Fall of Humanity into sin comes from God's Word. Always remember that the only absolutely trustworthy and accurate account of the earliest days of both the Universe and the human race is found in the inspired words from God in Genesis.
As we turn back to Genesis 4 we are seeing the very first description of the deadliest evil humanity has ever faced. It is called: Religion.
Religion is mankind offering any kind of worship to God, other than what God’s Word has commanded. Religion is the self-styled offering of a humanly designed worship, rather than the Spirit-prompted offering of strict obedience to God’s Word.
That means that there are only two choices in the Universe, for offering true and acceptable worship: God’s revelation of what He wants in His Word, and everything else. Here is point number one:
Satan Always Counterfeits God’s PLAN (2 Cor. 11:14)
Only Two Choices, & Only Two Destinations (Mt. 7:13-14)
Genesis 4 Contrasts: Satan’s Followers (Cain) vs. God’s Followers (Abel)
Satan’s religion: The Wicked Way of Cain (1 Jn. 3:12)

Test All Things & Hold Fast to God’s Truth
The truth from God's Word that we each need to settle in our minds, and hold tightly to in the days ahead is this:
Lesson One-God’s Voice from Heaven in Rev. 4-5 says: There is only one Real Heaven and Rev. 4-5 describes what it looks like, so none of the other stories that you read or hear about Heaven, other than God's Word are accurate or inspired.
• Even if the book is in a Christian Bookstore, don’t accept it as truth. God is the sole source of truth about Heaven, no person’s experience or modern so-called prophet is to ever be trusted over the Lord God Almighty!
• Even if the book has been read by your friends, and strongly affirmed by them, and they are godly and devout followers of Christ: don’t accept it as truth. God is the sole source of truth about Heaven, no person’s experience or modern so-called prophet is to ever be trusted over the Lord God Almighty!
• Even if a local church in the area that knows the truth, preaches the truth, and is filled with godly believers uses one of these books about Heaven in a small group study or Christian education class: don’t accept it as truth. God is the sole source of truth about Heaven, no person’s experience or modern so-called prophet is to ever be trusted over the Lord God Almighty!
To protect your mind from confusion about truth: beware of whenever Heaven is described differently than how God has described it so clearly in His Word.
The second Foundational Truth that we each need to settle in our minds, and hold tightly to in the days ahead is this:
Truth-2, God’s Voice from Heaven in Rev. 4-5 says: There are only two destinations, one is an eternal place God calls Heaven, filled with joy, peace, bliss, and endless pleasures; and the other is a place of conscious, endless torments called Hell: and you are going to one or the other.

Today we are looking at the backbone of God’s Word the Bible. That backbone is the Law. God explains His Law as being the teaching, rules, or directions of the Divine Teacher.
In the Old Testament, we see God giving His Law. The word in Hebrew for the law is a word many of us have heard, it’s the word Torah. Torah means the teachings of a teacher. When used of God’s Law it means that God came as the Divine Teacher, and gives His Divine Teaching.
Because God is Eternal, All-Powerful, All-Knowing, and All-Wise: His teaching is unlike any other.
The Divine Teacher Speaks
God’s Law (or teaching) once and for all, perfectly delineates what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad. Order comes from rules, laws, standards, and fixed points. God says that for life to be right His rules must be kept.
What is right and what is wrong?
Is there any way to determine right and wrong?
The Simple Answer to Everything
Today we look at the core of all that we hold onto as believers. The foundation of everything is that God is True, that He has given Truth, and that we hold the special revelation of God’s Truth in written form in God’s Word the Bible.
God has revealed Himself in nature, but most powerfully in His Word.
God’s Word is offered as the only final answer for all of life’s questions, problems, needs, challenges, sorrows, and disasters. The simplest test of truth is the determination of right and wrong.
Everything comes down to right and wrong.
So, What is right and what is wrong? Think about how simple and how profound is the answer to this question:

Is there any way to determine right and wrong?
Yes, there is an absolute way to determine right and wrong; but it is only one way:
God’s Word has revealed that conformity to the moral character of God, the Creator & Owner of Everything, makes things right; and any lack of conformity to God’s moral character makes things wrong.
That’s it. It is really just that simple.
Conformity to God’s Moral Character = What’s Right
So what is God’s moral character? In the Bible, we have been given three incredible tools to discern, understand, and apply God’s moral character.
God’s Attributes are the explanation of His moral character.
God’s Law is the application of His moral character.
God’s Ceremonies & Rules are illustrations of His moral character.
