Hi there! I'm Timi, an English teacher. I'd like to talk about the FORD method, I'm planning to do a video-series on it, so please stay tuned!
The FORD method is a technique which was created to help ESL (English as a second language) students with engaging in small talk. What does it mean? Small talk is a term describing the act of socialising with other people: especially having conversations with random strangers on many day-to-day occasions (e.g. in the street, at a bus stop or in an elevator). Besides strangers you can make small talk with people whom you do not know well, too. In textbooks, you can usually find a quite boring example of small talk, i.e. talking about the weather. Sure, you are free to use weather expressions like "Lovely day, isn't it?"; "What an awful day, isn't it?", but sometimes it is not enough to keep a conversation going. After saying something like "Exactly!"; "True enough!", there is not much to say. If you want to avoid uncomfortable silence, you can always rely on the FORD method. So, let's have a closer look at it! The acronym FORD stands for four topics: the first one, family, the second, occupation, the third recreation and the fourth is dreams. If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe to my channel, and I'll continue with this topic later. Have a nice day! Bye! :)

CORRECTION: I said that "do" is a modal verb, it is not! :D It is an auxiliary verb, so sorry about that! :)
