Wow, a fan port of Mario Kart 64 for the PC that is fun and totally not bad :D ...just kidding, it's bad. Yes, for some reason I decided to play a low quality Mario Kart fan game from over a decade ago that "borrowed" the name from Nintendo! (I'm sure the kind folks over at their law offices will understand.) Is it actually fun though? Well, for anyone who's played a Mario Kart game in their life, probably not. There is no drift mechanic from what I can tell and the steering does not feel like a car. It's very sharp and it's easy to get stuck on walls, which isn't good during a race. So yeah, it's a buggy mess. But at least there are some unique power-ups. Surprisingly, I somehow had a good time with this weird game. That doesn't mean it's quality, I'm just a weird channel. And maybe I'll complete the rest of the cups just for laughs! Sonic Elements, another underplayed fan game with some potential here! Yet again, we see a Sonic game powered by GMate, which I think is a great engine. (Credit goes to PVic there.) Sonic & Tails embark on another adventure, and this time they find themselves in a cold, icy world. Going into how this game plays and looks, the level design isn't the most expansive, but it doesn't disappoint either. As far as visuals go... the mountainous backgrounds with the northern lights? Absolutely beautiful. The foreground elements are fairly interesting too. (And yes, I know these assets were taken from Sonic Frost, which I should play soon. But credit was given, so chill - pun intended.) Also, when you go underwater, the image distorts in a weird way, but I think it's fitting. Overall, Sonic Elements - Ice Version is a short, but otherwise good fan game! Well, it has some design flaws and doesn't go on for that long, but it's worth a shot I'd say. I'd like to see more from CG_2004 - his other fan game "Sonic World Chaos" is definitely worth checking out as well. What is this, a Sonic 2 hack? No, it's actually a fan game! Sonic 2 Time Quest feels close to home, and it aims to bring back various prototype elements! This fan game seems quite polished, both with visuals and gameplay! There are 2 zones so far. Level design doesn't disappoint, with a lot of room for exploration! Also, upon collecting 50 rings, there appears to be... a warp ring at the end of each stage, but it doesn't lead anywhere yet. So far, I really enjoyed this Sonic 2-inspired fan game! Though, I wonder if the title implies something more later on... time travel maybe? Well, it's still an early demo right now.
