Woodworking safety, everybody's favourite topic! ... Ok, there is no way to swing that, it is really right up there with sanding ? While I'm not a safety nut and being a novice probably do a lot of dodgy things on this front (have you seen my table saw?!), there is one area my other life as a chemist has prepared me well for... Lung protection. We'll cover P2 / N95, Half-Mask (like the Trend or Sundstrom), Filter types and what those numbers all mean and most importantly cover the correct fitting of the masks to protect yourself from sawdust.
Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE, is the first line of defence for the woodworker and doubly important if you don't have a proper dust extraction system. While I'd recommend a mask to ALL woodworkers regardless of your piped HPLV or LPHV setups, it is basically mission-critical if like me, all you have is a shop vac.
This won't be the most interesting video you watch this week, but it may be the most important. If you get questions, drop me a comment and share this around, particularly to new woodworkers... or old stubborn ones who don't like change ?

In your #woodworking workshop, there are certain essential consumables you should always have on hand. Having them will mean you rarely have to stop your workflow for a trip to Bunnings or another big box store to grab an annoying little item that has ground production to a halt. In this video, I'll take you through my recommendations and uses of Screws, Nails, Sandpaper, Adhesives (Glue & Tape) and Rags & Cloths that I keep on hand in the Fixit Fingers #TinyWorkshop

I love my little #Bosch PBD 40 Drill Press, but it has one main flaw, the control wheel can be a bit awkward to operate at times. Enter the pivoting auxiliary handle designed and 3D printed by @Derek_Lark that solves this annoying issue.
Trust me, if you have this drill press, you want one. Very reasonable price too. (Not affiliated, just a fan of Derek's work! #AussieMaker )

First up, please keep in mind this is not a "How to Perfectly Restore Outside Furniture" video, though I hope you get a lot of tips and ideas to assist with your own bench restoration or outdoor furniture repair projects. This was client work and done to a budget, with the goal of giving another 5-10 years of life before such work needs to be done again. There are a lot of extra steps I could take but this would have added a lot of time and therefore expense, so take this as a guide to a "Practical" #woodworking #restoration for a budget ;)
I'll show you how I prepare, clean, sand, repair, stain and protect six rather expensive solid teak wooden benches for an apartment complex in Sydney.
EcoFlow sent me the Delta Portable Power Supply to try out and while it is expensive, it did what was on the label, and did it very well. Here is an Affiliate EcoFlow’s website to get your own #EcoFlow Delta portable power station if you like what you saw. It costs you no extra but helps support my channel: https://au.ecoflow.com/products/delta-portable-power-station?aff=93

When I am not #woodworking I am often playing #dungeonsanddragons instead. Over the best part of the last year, I have been combining those two loves. I wanted a one-of-a-kind handmade wooden dice tower for my weekly D&D game, and dove in with no plan and little clue knocking out the cool spiral staircase rolling mechanism.
Then life happened, the side hustle and sponsored videos took priority, and the poor DIY dice tower project languished in the corner of the workshop gathering dust. I'd progress them in spits and spurts, until last week when I decided all else had to wait, I wanted my dice towers! It was perhaps the most fun and unique build I've done... so apologies for the mini-movie length feature ;)

The 2020 war on dust continues with an upgrade to my Ryobi Shop Vac and Sherwood Cyclone dust collector this week, a DIY mobile cart. The concept of the pairing is great, but in reality, without a dust cart like this, they are a pain to use. This simple Kreg pocket hole cart is mostly scrap wood and reuses the casters and tool holders from the vac. The result is an amazingly simple but effective addition to the workshop.
I went with this low profile an Aussie branded Sherwood Cyclone Separator from Timbecon that came with its own bucket. Triton does a very similar one which in Australia you can get here: https://amzn.to/2XFCVqp . An identical American option is the "Powertech" one. (https://amzn.to/3hpj0HM)
The Dust Deputy (https://amzn.to/2Xuy7nm) is a more efficient Cyclone, but I wanted a low profile to fit under my bench. There are also cheaper unbranded variants available (USA - https://amzn.to/3caWXOG , Aus - https://amzn.to/3gyxT7M ).

My new Melbourne Tool Company planes need a home (and a sharpen :P) so I found a place in my small #workshop where I can easily display them in a simple plane till and have them on hand for day-to-day use. No plans this time, just making it up as I go and trying to practice as many different uses for them as I can come up with during the build.
To be clear, I *am* using some power tools, this is more about getting some practice in where I can. I am starting to enjoy my #handtools and will continue to find excuses to use them in project for a while, though judging by my butchering of the Japanese pull saw usage I have a VERY long way to go :P
MTC Planes are available from @Timbecon in Australia they are not yet available overseas. Regardless of brand, I highly recommend adding this combo to your kit if you are a power tool woodworker like me as they are very handy to have on hand.

A couple weeks ago, I was given an old Stanley 220 block plane as part payment for a job I did. However, it needed some work beyond my skill to restore, so I sent it to the talented Mat at @Saw-IT and they not only did a cracking job fixing it up, but restored a Stanley 102 at the same time AND made a gorgeous silky oak box turning them into a nice block plane box set to giveaway and pay it forward to someone else.
HOW TO ENTER:
Simply subscribe to both our channels and comment #PlaneBoxSet on this video or on @Saw-IT 's Silky Oak Box Build Video (https://youtu.be/L1ZOKJxc9lY) and this stunning set could be yours. These tools are sharp, tuned up and ready for work or left to look good in the box.
There is only one catch, Australia only sorry due to postage. Entries close 11:59pm Friday June 9th 2023 with the winner to be randomly selected using the "Wheel of Names" spinner.

Normally about once a month I've been uploading these poorly shot Vlogs for my Channel Members. When I turned off the camera yesterday, I decided I wanted more folks to share this particular one with as it hit home personally during my usual ramble of how important the process of woodworking is to me.
You may notice I never really mention my 'real' job online, and I won't directly here. There are a few reasons for that. Needless to say, if you know my trade, you know it ain't very nice and having dedicated ways to combat burnout and manage mental health is very important. I hope this video gives some insight as to exactly what this hobby and community mean to me in that respect.
And hey, if you enjoy these sorts of behind-the-scenes rambles, want more, and want to support the channel, why not join me for a few bucks each month? :P
