President Barack Obama announced on Wednesday that we will begin normalizing relations with Cuba. The deal ended 53 years of diplomatic estrangement and opens the way for economic opportunities for both the US and Cuba. Obama said that the policy changes mark the beginning of “a new chapter” for the Americas and urged Congress to bolster his executive actions by lifting the Cuba embargo. So what are some of the economic implications of this détente? Erin weighs in.
Then, Erin is joined by Max Fraad Wolff, assistant professor of economics at The New School. Max tells us what he makes of the Fed’s recent statement implying they won’t hike rates for a “considerable time” after QE is finished and gives us his take on what investors should take away from it.
After the break, Erin sits down with Eswar Prasad – professor at Cornell University and senior fellow at The Brookings Institution. Professor Prasad tells us what he sees as the biggest consequences of the strong dollar and gives us his take on what emerging markets he thinks look vulnerable. Eswar also tells us why floating rate regimes give emerging markets breathing room while fixed rate regimes require steep levels of economic reform.
And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison are talking about the recent Fed policy statement and the Swiss National Bank’s move to negative interest rates. Take a look!

Our lead story: Should you be worried about Mr. Taxman? Turns out that your chances of being audited this year are much lower than past years. This year the IRS will have fewer agents auditing the returns than at any time since the 1980s. What does that mean for you? Erin takes a look.
Author and currency strategist Marc Chandler joins Erin for the first segment to shed some light on the currency market. He gives us some of the factors he looks at in order to make money in the market. Then, Erin brings you part two of her interview with author and investor Daniel Alpert who talks about China's hard landing (or lack thereof) and Abegeddon (also known as Abenomics).
For today's Big Deal, Edward Harrison joins Erin to throw some cold water on all of this Greek hype. He looks at some of the tough obstacles facing Greece and discusses how some exogenous shocks could derail the European recovery.

American 'banking' exceptionalism -- in the BNP Paribas dispute. Paribas is being investigated for laundering money for the Sudanese and Iranians in contravention of US law. Now the US wants the bank to pay $8 to $9 billion for its legal transgressions. Is this just another form of financial warfare? Erin Ade gives her take.
Then, Erin sits down with Cullen Roche to talk about the US economy. Economic growth in the US was poor in the first three months of the year. But, all of the economic signs now reveal a distinct spring and summer thawing. Cullen Roche tells us what these signs mean and how to interpret them for investing and economic forecasting.
Then, we have part two of Erin's conversation with Marshall Auerback of the Institute for New Economic Thinking. Marshall is a former fund manager with significant experience in Asia. He gives a skeptical take on the Fed's market manipulations as well as a view on how to read the slowdown in China. Is the country headed for a hard landing? Perhaps, but debt deflation dynamics are certainly something to watch, Marshall says.
And in today's Big Deal, Erin and Boom Bust producer Edward Harrison talk about Iraq. Is this even an economic story -- or just a political one? What are the global economic implications if it is an economic story? Watch this segment to find out.
