This is the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains, CA. I've been here twice in my life. Imo, the area is not as scenic as the Eastern Sierra which is on the other side of HWY 395 to the west. However, it turns out it is the oldest known forest in the world.
Note some of the year dates I give are approximate and not meant to be exact; I took a more conservative approach. I subtitled "over 4,700 years old", but a paper I looked at recently said Methuselah was 4845 years old as of 2012. The oldest tree they recently dated was 5062 as of 2012. Check here:

I meant to have this video out a long time ago, but I wasn't sure how to present it. Would I create a boring thirty minute narrated educational video? How about a mystical, fantasy, druid style with suspenseful music and lots of editing effects to make it entertaining? I talk more about this on my blog, but I decided to not worry too much about this. So there is a little of both, but did not really go in either direction.
In any case, I hope you get something out of this, but if not I understand because it was a difficult to come up with a good theme for this one.

The is the end of the Beek's Place hike I started in the last video. Maybe not as dramatic as the title suggests, but something I wanted to see up close. For more explanation: http://tinyurl.com/27j6va9

I meant to have this up last week in time for what would have been his birthday...oh well...
This video was shot at two different times. The first part was shot late in the winter on a tripod. I had bad conditions for the other two parts on this one, so I ended up going back to get those done during the summer. Even then I had really bad wind on one day (strike one), then on passing by HWY 395 again a few weeks later I just kept going because the clouds were drowning out the mountains (strike two), but then I got lucky on the last time I passed through.
I cut out a funny story I had on this one to keep the video short. I did not explain it really well anyways while doing the video so I will do it here. Basically, I was moving quickly through L.R. Canyon and there were a bunch of people spread out. I greeted each, but my ride was waiting for me on this trip so I wanted to fly by as quick as possible. Around the point I passed nearby G.A. Rock a man and his wife yelled at me, "Do you know where the world famous G.A. Rock is?" I pointed at the rock, and as soon as I did so he yelled back "Okay, I just wanted to make sure you did not miss it." I laughed, "Oh Yeah! If you only knew," and kept moving to the next location. In the video it did not come out that well, I was breathing heavily, but I tried to immitate Bugs Bunny, "He don't know me very well. Do he?" Lol!
