Over the past 3 months, I've been studying non-stop for software engineering interviews in order to quit my DevOps job. As much as I enjoyed DevOps and Infrastructure, I realized that I wasn't coding as much as I wanted to. I also wanted to try something new. But I completely forgot how stressful and ridiculous the job interview process can be for software engineers. The process can be so random. And knowing how to code a sudoku solver in a word document, from memory, does not make you a good programmer and yet, way too many companies are expecting this from their candidates.
The whole process can be demoralizing but after 3 months of a necessary evil (Leetcode), I was finally able to get an offer for a Backend Software Engineering job that I'm excited about. However, the fact of the matter is, companies need to rethink candidate interviews. If you're currently in the process, I promise it gets better! Lean on me as a resource. And speaking of resources, here are some resources I found super helpful these last 3 months:

07:47 - My Second Attempt at Leaving
09:04 - Things to Remember During the Process
10:16 - What I Was Looking For in My Next Job
12:42 - Overview of Technical Interview Results
14:50 - Reflection and Advice

I get a lot of questions asking what a DevOps engineer is and what I do working as one. I tried my best to explain what I do in this video. Don't be shy to ask me questions if you want to learn more. Enjoy!

Learning how to code can easily become overwhelming. Here's a video with tips and resources for learning how to code! I've also included some helpful resources down below:
TLDW
1. First, figure out what you want to build and why
- Have no idea? Start with Python
- Python resources:
- https://www.learnpython.org/ (go to the Learn the Basics section)
Want to build a website?
- Start with learning HTML, CSS, Javascript
- https://www.freecodecamp.org/ (step by step tutorials to build real projects)
Want to learn:
- Mobile Apps? Swift (iOS), Java (android), React Native / Flutter (cross-platform but learn Javascript first)
- Data Science + Machine Learning? Python
- Databases? SQL, NoSQL
2. Build on core Computer Science concepts (data structures, algorithms, etc)
- Take free online classes like Harvard’s CS50x Introduction to Computer Science
- Link to that class here: https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2020/
3. Watch videos about coding to see how others approach a problem
4. Don’t get caught in a tutorial loop! Build something and apply what you've learned

TL;DR :)
- Started my first software engineering job during the summer of 2018 and saved 20% after maxing out 401k and index fund investing
- Made sure my expenses were down to maximize savings
- Started doing my research on Reddit and BiggerPockets, I also had a parent who had a little bit of experience and who was a real estate agent for 2-3yrs right before the housing market crash of 2008
- Learned how to calculate cash flow and CoC return by creating my own excel sheets with numbers to analyze each property I was interested in
- Reached out to a real estate agent on BiggerPockets
- Got pre-approved through multiple lenders
- Put in an offer on a home
- Flew out to see the home for the first time after closing to do repairs and showings for potential tenants
- Placed property management to take care of the house and tenants on a day to day basis

Enjoy!

Hi everyone, this video is about how I was able to effectively study for computer science when I was in college. I recently graduated with a degree in computer science this past year so my ways of studying are still fresh in my mind and I wanted to share them with you all. Feel free to leave me some comments down before tips you have for studying computer science, programming, or engineering that others can learn from! As always, feel free to leave me questions or comments down below.

Friends! I wanted to take you through what I've been building for these last few weeks. I've been building a web application from scratch using React and AWS Amplify. I knew about neither of these frameworks/platforms when I started but it has been fun building something I'm really passionate about. The goal is to turn this into a series showing you guys how I plan to build out different features in the web app, obstacles I'm facing, and whatever else that comes up along the way.
