Phony Oldies: Re-Recordings & How to Avoid Them
Inferior re-recordings have been an anathema to fans of '50s-'70s Rock, Pop, and R&B music ever since CDs became popular in the 1980s -- and these phony Oldies persist today on YouTube and other streaming and download sites. New Jersey's radio station "The Breeze" began on 99.7 WBHX (Tuckerton, NJ) on October 4th, 2002, as a '60s-'80s Soft AC/Oldies music format. On June 30th, 2003, they began simulcasting on 107.1 WWZY (Long Branch, NJ). They gradually added '90s and 2000s music to the format and featured a "No-Repeat Work Week" where no songs would be repeated during the entire 40-hour work week (9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday). The recording in this video is from June 2007. Things began going downhill in the summer of 2011 when The Breeze stopped playing any music older than the '80s, added more current pop hits, and cancelled the "No-Repeat Work Week". Because of this, ratings declined, and by the summer of 2012 they had cut back on the current hits and began playing 1970s music again. However, it did not last; after once again eliminating '70s music from the playlist and adding more current hits, 107.1 WWZY officially dropped the name "The Breeze" and became "FM 107.1, A Music Station" on April 19th, 2013. 99.7 WBHX is not mentioned in the station's new name and thus is likely to end its simulcast of 107.1 and become a different format soon. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmEH9oSd9KE
