When I overland I carry two gas bottles. One for cooking and the other for lighting. I carry these on the roof rack, so making sure they remain secure especially when travelling over rough corrugated outback terrains was very important to me.
A little over a year ago I purchased and installed two universal Front Runner LPG gas bottle holders on my 4x4. At the time there were concerns as to how well these would stand up to the test of time. Over our rough Aussie off road terrain.
Since the installation I have done close to 10,000km of off road overland, travel most of which has been on rough corrugated roads.
In this video I talk about my impressions on the product.

For those of you who are new to my channel, first of all thank you for dropping by.
I have been overlanding for many years. It all started back in Africa where I grew up. My very first 4x4 offroad overland trip was a complete disaster. I was ill prepared with no clue on offroad touring. But what I experienced in terms of landscape, wildlife and human humility only made me even more determined to keep going back for more.
I have now made Australia my new home and every single day since I arrived here six years ago has been a journey of discovery. But I knew for me to truly discover this country I had to overland into the Australian outback. Camping along the way got me close to nature, the wildlife, the people and the geological passage of time going back hundreds of millions of years.
There is much to see in this vast country we affectionately call Down Under. Through this channel I share my travels and the beauty of Australia with others in the overlanding community. Also travel and 4x4 tips I pickup along the way.
So do subscribe to my channel and turn on that notification button as I try to bring out at least one video every week.
Cheers!

In this video I use a recent 4x4 recovery experience to explain the importance of having rated recovery points and equally important to have functional (useable) recovery points. During this offroad trip on thick soft sand we came across a bogged 4x4. The vehicle was stuck deep with sand up to its chassis. It was a tricky place to do a recovery as the sand was very soft and thick. Also to the left of my 4wd the dune dropped off. So I had to make sure my 80 series did not slip down that side. The challenge was the 4x4 I was attempting to recover did not have rated recovery points. All it had was the factory fitted tow hooks. There is a big difference between tow points and recovery points. Worse still there was hardly any space to insert a the snatch strap as the space between the 4x4's tow hook and the under body protection skid plate was hardly any.
Cheers!

It is day two for us and we are spoilt for places to visit in Kangaroo Island South Australia. We are based at Antechamber bay campsites in Lashmar Conservation park. One of the best camp spots we have ever been to in Australia. On one side we have access to Chapmans river and a mere 200 meters away is the beach where the river meets the Souther Ocean.
Today we set our sights on exploring Cape Willoughby lighthouse. South Australia's first lighthouse built in 1852. Thereafter, we climb Prospect hill. Matthew Flinders climbed Prospect Hill when navigating the North Coast of Kangaroo Island to determine his bearings in 1802. Visitors can now climb this steep sand hill. Views from the top include panoramic views of Pelican lagoon and Pennington Bay.
Roads on Kangaroo Island are all very well maintained. Including gravel roads. So there is no need for a 4x4 or 4wd vehicle to explore this beautiful island. Any vehicle will do.

Australia is synonymous with crocodiles, venomous snakes and spiders. Whilst we do have these in plentiful here, it is over-exaggerated. There is much more than these to see.
As for overlanders who have never been Down Under before, what needs to be told is the vast distances we travel to and how remote it can get. Also, how much of this vast land we have for exploring.
In this vlog, I try to explain this.

A stone's throw away from Adelaide city limits, George road ride to Kangaroo Creek Reservoir is a motorcycle rider's dream route. This winding road passes through some breath taking mountain passes, steep drop offs, road side water falls and amazing rolling landscapes. Thrown into all this is some very steep ascends and descends.
