Hello Nerds! Welcome back to my channel!
One of the most intense crisis in modern times is taking place right now in Ukraine. The Russia-Ukraine conflict (Russia-Ukraine War) which has been ongoing since 2014, has blown out into a full-scale war. Russia has officially invaded and attacked Ukraine, marking it the first time that country has invaded a European country since World War 2.
Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Internationally considered an act of aggression, the invasion has triggered Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II, with more than 4.1 million Ukrainians leaving the country and a quarter of the population displaced.
The invasion marked a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began following the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity. Russia subsequently annexed Crimea, and Russian-backed separatists seized part of the south-eastern Donbas region of Ukraine, sparking a war there. In 2021, Russia began a large military build-up along its border with Ukraine, amassing up to 190,000 troops along with their equipment.
Most of the major world powers like the US, UK, Canada, Australia and most of the European Union have strongly condemned Russian actions. However, the World's largest Democracy, India has remained firmly neutral on the ongoing war, and has refused to take sides. Understandably, this has not gone down well with the West, who think India have taken Russia's side.
So why is India neutral on this major conflict? And will it continue to remain neutral in the coming days of the war? Find out from the video...

Hello Nerds! Welcome back to my channel! Today we shall talk about the unique Siddi community of India.
The Siddis: India’s Lost African community
India, they say, is truly a melting pot of cultures & traditions. What makes India one of the most diverse countries in the world is its long history of migration which has been recorded since prehistoric times & the fact that the country is home to 1000s of ethnic groups!
One such group that is rarely talked about is the Siddi community. The Siddis are an ethnic group inhabiting both India & Pakistan, and are said to be descendants of the Bantu people in Central & South-East Africa. The current population of the Siddi community in India is said to be between 40-50000 and are spread across Karnataka, Gujarat & Maharashtra.
So how did the Siddis make their home in India?
As was the case back in the 7th century, the Siddis were brought to India for mainly slavery, first by the Arab rulers & later the European colonialists. Over the next 1000 years, the Siddis played an important role in the Arabs conquest of the Indian subcontinent & subsequently, under the Portuguese rule much later on, as sailors & military mercenaries.
When slavery was finally abolished, the Siddi people are believed to have fled into the western Indian jungles & established their communities there, where they’re still found today in small pockets.
At first glance, the Siddis stand out from the rest of the population due to their physical appearance. They’re commonly mistaken as African foreigners in India. Having lived in the Indian subcontinent for centuries together, the Siddis have managed to retain their roots in terms of their dance & music traditions. However, they have still managed to exhibit a remarkable level of assimilation with local culture by speaking their respective local languages, either Kannada or Gujarati, quite fluently. A vast majority of the Siddis also follow Hinduism & Islam as their religion.
In the present day, the Siddis continue to live quietly in the shadows, fearing racism & discrimination from the dominant sections of the society. They struggle to hold on to their unique identity & fight their way through poverty everyday, while putting a smile on their faces.
Let’s not forget, the enthusiastic Siddi community from Karnataka wanted to gift a bottle of honey to the then US president Barack Obama in 2010, as they believed that the president shared their gene pool. Unfortunately, this idea never say light of day, but that didn’t deter the Siddis from worshipping their hero when he was elected to office twice.

Hello Nerds! Welcome back to my channel!
In January 2022, the government of Indonesia approved a move to relocate its capital city from Jakarta to Nusantara, on the island of Borneo.
The new capital city of Indonesia will be called 'Nusantara' meaning archipelago in Javanese language. The decision was made to ease some pressure off Jakarta, which is struggling with issues like overpopulation, flooding, air pollution and rapid depletion of groundwater.
On the flip side, moving the capital city to Nusantara on Borneo island posses a different kind of challenge. Borneo is home to one of the oldest rainforests on the planet, and shifting the capital could have a direct impact on the rainforest and the environment.

Hello fellow Nerds!
For the very first time on this channel, I wanted to address the latest and live Geographical event that is taking place right now in Tonga- Volcano and Tsunami!
The 2022 Hunga Tonga eruption and tsunami began on 14th January, 2022, in Hunga Tonga, a volcanic island of Tonga in the Oceanic region of the Pacific Ocean. The eruption caused tsunamis in neighboring Tonga, Fiji and American Samoa, with serious tsunami warnings issued in countries like Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Australia, and as far away as Japan, Russia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Ecuador.
Check out the video to find out what we know about this Volcanic eruption, that has thrown life out of gear of the residents of the Oceanic islands.
