'Baka magalit na naman': Quiboloy says he didn't stop Tisoy because of 'bashers'
MANILA - Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has claimed that he did not stop typhoon Tisoy from destroying parts of the country because of his detractors.

The 69-year-old Kingdom of Jesus Christ head said he received backlash for "stopping" one of the 3 deadly quakes that jolted parts of Mindanao in October.

'Pasalamat kayo': Quiboloy says he stopped Mindanao quake

"Kasi 'yung ini-stop ko 'yung earthquake, nagalit man sila. Binash ako nang napakarami. So baka i-stop ko 'yung bagyo, baka magalit na naman," he said in a video posted on his Facebook page.

(I stopped the earthquake, but they got angry. A lot of people bashed me. So I they might get angry again if I stop the typhoon.)

"Hindi ko alam kung anong gagawin ko kasi 'pag pina-stop mo, nagagalit. 'Pag hindi mo pina-stop, nagagalit din," he added.

(I don't know what I should do because if I stop it, they'll get angry. If I don't stop it, they'll also get angry.)

Instead of stopping the typhoon, Quiboloy said he prayed that the typhoon would just pass.

He also said he would just help those who got affected by both the typhoon and the Mindanao earthquakes.

"Ang hindi ma-stop diyan, 'yung tulong namin, sa ating mga kababayan. Kasi panata ko 'yun, sa mga maka-langit," Quiboly said.

(I won't stop helping our countrymen. That is my devotion.)

Tisoy, the country's strongest storm so far this year left at least 13 people dead and at least 34 injured as it devastated southern Luzon and Visayas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

The NDRRMC said the typhoon claimed 7 lives in Mimaropa, 4 in Eastern Visayas, and 2 in Calabarzon.

Quiboloy, the self-declared "Appointed Son of God," rose to nationwide prominence in 2016 as President Rodrigo Duterte's decades-long friend.

After winning the presidency, Quiboloy and Duterte had a spat after the chief executive refused to accept the pastor's help in selecting cabinet members.

The two men mended ties earlier this year shortly after the 2019 midterm elections.
