Climate catastrophe headlines are everywhere - but what if they are not true? The CLINTEL World Climate Declaration, signed by over 1200 scientists and scholars from around the world, says there is no climate emergency and that we do have time. Another key point that the CLINTEL declaration makes is that "Global warming has not increased natural disasters." This statement contradicts the constant media barrage of headlines about every extreme weather event - so this little video gives a quick overview of the facts that debunk many 'popular' media claims. If #FactsMatter to journalists, why are they not reporting these to you? ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ1xaRjNUAE
Dr. Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Foundation was in Calgary on April 9th, 2024, to speak about "Europe's NetZero Rebellion and the implications for Canada." This is a recording of that event. Dr. Peiser explained that "climate is now a minority issue for voters." Governments are facing defeat because of their extreme NetZero policies that are hitting citizens hard with high energy bills, draconian demands to switch out gas boilers for more expensive, less reliable heat pumps, and the threat of imported cheap Chinese EVs which would crater the EU and UK auto industry and devastate national economies. Dr. Peiser anticipates that Canada is about 5 years behind the EU in terms of public rejection.
Dr. Peiser spoke at our 13th Annual Events (which you can find on our website under 'Past Events') in 2014 about "To Heat or Eat: Europe's Climate Policy Fiasco." We tried to warn Canadians then; we are warning you now. Please like, share and subscribe! Dr. John Harper, former director of the Geological Survey of Canada says that the 600 million year history of climate change shows that climate change is beyond our control. Climate always changes. A warming climate releases CO2 into the atmosphere. Dr. Harper recommends to provide incentives to industry to clean up real pollution. This version includes some illustrative arrows for citizens who are not familiar with reading graphs of geologic time, to show past warming and cooling cycles and where we are today in terms of natural cycles.

The City of Calgary declared a Climate Emergency in November 2021, premised on claims that the cost of inaction on climate would be too high, and that Calgary's actions would have significant climate impact. The estimated cost of the program is some $87 billion. A year later, in November 2022, the Parliamentary Budget Officer issued a report that showed the cost of inaction on climate is negligible and that even Canada's efforts would not affect climate change; obviously Calgary's even less so. This presentation explores the serious flaws of the Calgary Climate Plan - the reliance on a scenario known as RCP8.5 (Representative Concentration Pathway) which is an implausible socio-economic and climate scenario, but is framed as 'conservative' in the Calgary economic assessment. Calgary faces many real and present challenges. Likewise, NetZero 2030 or 2050 targets are not achievable. This presentation explains why. Burdening our children with debt for dubious 'climate action' projects that will only make green crony capitalists rich and will make ordinary Calgarians poor is contrary to good public policy. Making a plan without proper due diligence as to the likelihood that it is achievable is mismanagement. With the new insights from the Parliamentary Budget Officer's report, it is clear that the Calgary Climate Emergency Declaration must be rescinded and the $87 billion climate plan must be scrapped. Please help us continue to do the due diligence that the City of Calgary has not done. Send us an etransfer to: contact@friendsofscience.org - or join us! Patrick Hunt is the President of the Climate Realists of British Columbia. In this short clip he tells us about his days in the Canadian Navy as a submariner and how, during the Cold War, as he submarine was pursuing and observing what Russian submarines were up to, they'd sometimes have to remain below for several days. During that time the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the submarine would build up to 5,000 ppm, but he said it had no ill effects. Eco-activists have noticed a new attitude towards climate change at the COP21 conference. PM Trudeau has said he will "Commit to science-based decision making" and will impose a "national price on carbon". But the science says there has been no global warming for 18 years despite a rise in CO2, and that CO2 is not a control knob that can fine tune climate.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science is one of the largest scientific bodies in the world. This year's theme was "Diversity - It's in our DNA"; Michelle Stirling, our Communications Manager shows off her AAAS T-shirt. But their commitment to diversity doesn't seem to include diversity of views on #climate, does it? The cover of the June 2022 edition of the AAAS Science Magazine read "A Choice of Futures - Humanity can still avert a climate catastrophe." That's odd. The latest IPCC Physical Sciences report came out in the summer of 2021, and as Roger Pielke, Jr. reported, they no longer see catastrophe in our future. That's Good News! Why isn't it headline news, especially with the AAAS? How can there be such a drastic switch from fear of a climate emergency and catastrophe, to "Good News! No catastrophe looming?" It turns out that all the catastrophic science papers were using an IMPLAUSIBLE scenario known as RCP8.5 claiming it was 'business-as-usual.' Roger Pielke, Jr. and Justin Ritchie have published a peer-reviewed paper showing how that is misleading and completely inaccurate. The RCP scenarios (Representative Concentration Pathways) were meant for research purposes, not for planning climate policy. Both RCP 8.5 and RCP 6 are implausible - without them, there is no climate emergency, not even in theoretical scenarios. So, back to climate diversity. When will Science Magazine interview Dr. Guus Berkhout of CLINTEL, the organization of more than 1400 scientists and scholars who state there is NO Climate Emergency. That's good news! The Climate Emergency is over. We DO Have Time.

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe was in Alberta during the IPCC Cities Conference in Edmonton and came to Calgary to give a presentation at the University of Calgary. In this clip, she discusses our billboard campaign. Many Friends of Science Society members are graduates of the U of C and U of A. At least she liked our billboard. We are in favour of open, civil, scientific debate. Here is some important data for ongoing climate conversations.

Robert Lyman sent a plea by email to Canadians on Sept. 15, 2023 - "Stop the Madness. Now." NetZero climate policies are a choice - a deadly choice. The evidence from Europe, as reported by The Economist, shows that more people died of high energy prices last winter, than died of COVID-19. Climate and energy policies are a choice. Robert's email was turned into this video explainer, read by Michelle Stirling, Communications Manager for Friends of Science. His clear, blunt statements about the impacts of present NetZero climate policies should be a wake-up call for all Canadians. Robert Lyman was a federal public servant for 27 years and a diplomat for 10 years. Much of his career was spent on the greenhouse gas and energy policy issues, so he writes from long experience on this file. Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph and co-author of “Taken by Storm” explains that the Social Costs of Carbon are determined by using “IAMs” – Integrated Assessment Models. However these are calibrated to climate models, which are faulty, meaning that the IAMs are reporting exaggerated Social Costs of Carbon, unrelated to empirical evidence on global temperatures, resulting in unrealistic, ‘infinitely large damages’ from a single tonne of CO2 emissions.”
