Here is an improvisation on my cigar box guitar where I had just put newer heavier strings on it as a test. The heavier strings help put out more sound but the action becomes a bit too high and there are less overtones as the tension gets too tight. I'll probably try a new test where I down tune the heavier strings a few steps to see if that brings more character into the sounds.
Once the guitar was recorded I added four tracks of drums via my Roland Handsonic. The final xylophone track has quite a few effects on it via guitar rig 6 and it kind of reminds me of light refracting through some kind of diamond or crystal, hence the name of this song Shiny Diamonds. Here is a jam on my G&L fallout where I'm testing out the effects from Guitar Rig 9. The first track is a ringmod with a pitch shift that drops it down an octave to give a bitcrushed distortion bass sound. The next track is a heavy reversed delay to add an ambient sound throughout the song. The third track is the main lead that has a bit of rotator chorus and drive with reverb. The final track has a ton of effects to create a huge ambient sound.
For drums I tapped in the beat on my Roland handsonic controlling the Superior Drummer Independent SDX. I also added some distortion to the drums to make them fit the guitars better. Later on I also added some subtle electronic drums using the bent kit from EZ Drummer.
The overall mood and tone of the song reminds me of a big bumbling idiot floundering his way through life causing havoc to anything that crosses his path lol. Thanks for listening :-) #guitarrig #glguitars #superiordrummer

Here is an improvisation on my Wechter Pathfinder acoustic guitar. To start the process I programmed a 140 bpm basic drum track in superior drummer. I put the drums wav file on my phone and listened while I played whatever came to mind while recording with my zoom h6. Next I imported the wav file of the acoustic guitar back into my daw then reformatted the drums to match the guitar parts. This process seems to yield better result rather than just playing to a metronome as the monotonous metronome tone kind of influences my playing. If the drum beat is varied and interesting it forces you to try and play differently to match the percussion better. Once the song was mixed I layered in the video and fractals in after effects. This is also a test of my new black backdrop sheet that allows me to mask out the video better for adding effects. Thanks for listening :-) #improvisation

I went to the lake michigan beach and caught some relaxing waves hitting the shore. I added a soundtrack composed with my jaw harp, morin khuur, drums and my cigar box guitar. I also recorded my first attempt at throat singing as a subtle ambient sound to blend with the jaw harp track. Thanks for listening :-) #morinkhuur #mouthharp #meditation

Here's a #straturday in a minimal darkwave style. I've been neglecting my bass for a while so I decided to bring it out and what better genre to feature bass than darkwave. I also used my spectra drive bass pedal to push the signal a bit more than usual rather than try and push the signal digitally. Pedals usually sound way better than software and it turned out sounding really good on the bass. For the strat parts I used my axe fx 2 for the effects. The red strat has an eighth note delay on it so it will repeat one note 8 times which allows you to play very minimally but get an interesting sound that's a bit more elaborate. The partsocaster has an ambient array of effects on it that let it fade into the background as a wash. I also wanted to bring in some mangled sounding synth for the darkwave feel so I used my Akai mpk 3 and rapture as the synth to bring in a simple note progression in the second half of the song. I close out the song with my Stephen Carpenter ESP LTD as it has a longer scale that's easier for the higher up notes on the neck. I created a crazy effects chain in guitar rig 6 for that synthy sound on the guitar. That's all for now, thanks for listening :-) #straturday #darkwave

Here is an improvisation on my Egyptian Shehata oud. I just played whatever came to my mind at the time.
Later I added two tracks of doumbek, a shaker track and a handpan track on my Roland handsonic. The last track is on my Gibson Les Paul to add some ambient textures to the mix.
The mood of this song kind of reminds me of a person trying to summon a djinn to fullfill their wishes. Beware though, djinn always find a way to double cross you with their powers.

Here is a calming improvisation that started out with displacing air in my doumbek. this created a perfect c note so I began layering other sounds over it. Next I added another displacement note on the doumbek and some rythym on the surface of the doumbek.
I also added some tapping on the kalimba as well as a shaker track recorded in stereo to bring in some high pitched rythym.
On kalimba I played in the key of c to prepare for improvisation on my sitar. The sitar is tuned to Ravi Shankar tuning with lots of strings tuned to c, f, g and d.
Overall the improvisation has a calming sound to it with subtle reverb and delay on the sitar to add depth.
Thanks for listening :-) #sitar #kalimba #doumbek

I watched some setar players recently and was inspired to try a bit of their strumming technique. Many setar players use just their pointer finger to strum really fast, same for balalaika players. I like to strum down with my first three fingers and up with my thumb. This requires longer nails to get a clear sound.
The overall mood of the song reminds me of a person facing an internal enemy that they have to wrestle with their whole life.
Thanks for listening :-)
