My mate Mark called today to show me his latest acquisition, a red 1989, CB1, Honda 400. It has 40,000 miles on the clock. He bought it from a friend for the princely sum of £300. It was originally a Japanese Grey Import. This wee 400, like my Honda 450 Nighthawk, was never sold in the UK or made for a UK market but a few did manage to wind up here. A new chain, new oil, new plugs and a wee bit if work from somone who knows what they are doing and the bike was ready to go. Insurance for £99. ' 'Interesting' wheels for little more than £500. You couldn't beat it. If you are doing up an old bike you might try Herbie Liske bike breaker on the Burn Road Ballygowan to get cheap second hand parts. Herbie has an encyclopedic knowledge of bikes and he has a vast store of parts over several acres.
We are back down at the wonderful Farnham Estate Radisson Blu Golf and Spa Hotel in Co Cavan for a few days pampering.
In this video we have dropped into Cavan town after which the County takes it' s name. Cavan is a typical Irish market town. It has the narrow streets with all their friendly hustle and bustle.
Cavan (/ˈkævən/; Irish: an Cabhán, meaning "the hollow") is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with Northern Ireland. Cavan was founded by the King of East Breifne, Giolla Íosa Ruadh O’Reilly, sometime during his lordship between 1300 and his death in 1330. During his lordship, a Franciscan friary was established close to the O’Reilly stronghold at Tullymongan and was at the centre of the settlement close to a crossing over the river and to the town’s marketplace. The friary’s location is marked by an eighteenth-century tower in the graveyard at Abbey Street which appears to incorporate remains of the original medieval friary tower. There are about 30,000 people living within a 16 km radius of the town.
Cavan's successful O'Reilly 'clan', gave rise to the well known term 'Living the life of Reilly' for anyone who was doing well financially. Popular Irish ballladeer Percy French lived in Cavan for a number of years.
I learnt from grim experience that there are plenty of ladies shoe shops in Cavan! lol
Come with me for 20 minutes or so, as I take a leisurely dander along the Shandon Park and on to Kensington Road East Belfast. The Shandon Park postcode has been traditionally regarded as being very prestigious. I'm not sure why this might be but it is possible that this is no longer the case as less desirable, 'newcomer' residents, slip into the area. lol
Shandon Park is a relatively recent residential area.
Aidan Campbell's excellent book on the area tells us,
' The name Shandon comes from the Irish, Sean Dún, meaning ‘old fort’.
By 1898 the Belfast Street Directory reports that there were only 4 houses in
existence, at the Knock Road end, of Shandon Park. However the famous ‘Shandon Mound’, ‘Motte and Bailey’ and dates back to the late 12th Century and Norman adventurer Knight John De Courcy.
This is my outside and inside walk around of the historically significant HMS Caroline moored in Belfast and now a naval history museum. Remarkably HMS Caroline was not built by Harlan & Wolff in Belast! HMS Caroline was built by Cammell Laird of Birkenhead. She was laid down on 28 January 1914, launched on 29 September 1914 and completed in December 1914.
HMS Caroline is a decommissioned C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy that saw combat service in the First World War and served as an administrative centre in the Second World War. Caroline was launched and commissioned in 1914. At the time of her decommissioning in 2011 she was the second-oldest ship in Royal Navy service, after HMS Victory. She served as a static headquarters and training ship for the Royal Naval Reserve, based in Alexandra Dock, Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the later stages of her career. She was converted into a museum ship. From October 2016 she underwent inspection and repairs to her hull at Harland and Wolff and opened to the public on 1 July 2017 at Alexandra Dock in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.2
Caroline was the last remaining British First World War light cruiser in service, and she is the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland still afloat. She is also one of only three surviving Royal Navy warships of the First World War, along with the 1915 monitor HMS M33 (in Portsmouth dockyard), and the Flower-class sloop HMS President, (formerly HMS Saxifrage)
Vilamoura Marina was fabulous.
Sandy beaches nearby, sea, piers, shops, views, restaurants, fish, massive 1000 berth marina, Renaldo Museum, interesting nightlife, walks all within a very short distance from hotel/marina.
See how the other half live!
I'm down at the Ulster Folk and Transpot Museum for their American Harley Davidson Motorbike and American Vehicle Day. This is a fantastic example of a American Army Reo M35 6X6 Military Truck
The M35 2½-ton cargo truck is a long-lived 2½-ton 6x6 cargo truck initially used by the United States Army and subsequently utilized by many nations around the world. Over time it evolved into a family of specialized vehicles. It would not only inherit the World War II GMC CCKW's famous "Deuce and a Half" nickname but forge its own legacy.
The M35 started as a 1949 REO Motor Car Company design for a 2½ ton 6x6 off-road truck. This original 6-wheel M34 version was quickly superseded by the 10-wheel M35 design. While the basic M35 cargo truck is rated to carry 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) off-road or 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg) on roads, they have been known to haul twice as much as rated. Trucks in this weight class are considered medium duty by the military and Department of Transportation.

Sept 2014 finds me up at footballing legend, George Best's grave up in Roselawn cemetery/crematorium on the outskirts of Belfast.
On the 3rd of December 2005, tens of thousands of people braved a wet winter’s day to line the route from Burren Way, up Prince
of Wales Avenue to the steps of Stormont Parliament Buildings, home to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
George was buried from Stormont, where three hundred invited guests attended the special service in the Great Hall, which featured school choirs, readings and performances from Belfast singers Brian Kennedy and Peter Corry. The service was broadcast live to the large crowd of over 25,000 people, who had
gathered to pay their respects.
George grew up in East Belfast and lived on the Cregagh estate. He died at far too young an age in 2005. As Van Morrison sings 'Precious time is slippin' away', and we often don't realise it until we meet an old friend from the past and they look so old!
George Best
Born 22 May 1946
Died 25 November 2005 (aged 59)

Spotted when we were out for a walk, this is George a rare black Russian Terrier. What a fabulous, friendly, fun doggy. I have never come across another dog quite like him in looks. George is my kind of dog.
The Black Russian Terrier (), abbreviated as BRT, also known as the Tchiorny Terrier (tchiorny being Russian for black) is a breed of dog created in USSR in Red Star (Krasnaya Zvezda) Kennel during the late 1940s and the early 1950s for use as military/working dogs.

I'm on Great Victoria Street and here's a big Scooter shop that I've never noticed before.
This is Scooter Specialist N. I. Formed in 2013 they are the only Official Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, Gilera, Scomadi and LML dealer in Northern Ireland, and the main AJS dealer; leaders in scooter servicing and repairs, and for providing quality spare parts. The shop also offer all sorts of scooter accessories and all the male/female fashion clothes to go with them.
On top of that they are now the official N Ireland dealership for Italian Mondial Motorbikes and there are two in the window.
The famed Italian FB Mondial motorcycle brand has returned to the market with a Hipster scrambler, enduro and supermoto with a single-cylinder 125cc engine and three engine sizes coming in the next few years.
FB-Mondial produced bikes from 1948 to 1979, won 10 World Championships in the 1940s and ‘50s.
NB I do not believe that this scooter store is still operating!!!!!!
