The Weird Al song Spy Hard was created for and used as the opening sequence for the 1996 movie of the same name, starring comedic actor Leslie Nielson. Spy Hard is a comedy which parodies popular action films, most notably the James Bond series. And who better to perform a parody song for a parody film than the master of parody himself, Weird Al Yankovich.
While it was "technically" never released on the Bad Hair Day album, it did appear as a B-Side on the "Gump" single before eventually being released as a single of its own.
The song and music video mimics that of a traditional opening to a James Bond film, most notably, Thunderball, which was performed by the late Tom Jones. Urban legends suggest that the Welsh singer held the song's final note so long that he passed out. As such, Weird Al holds the final note of the parody so long that his head explodes.
Weird Al actually intended to loop his voice in order to reach the required length. But when he performed the song in the studio, he was able to hold the note long enough on his own. So that is his actual performance which can be heard in the song, free from any studio trickery.
