Die sieben Raben (The Seven Ravens)
The plot of the film retells the story of The Seven Ravens without major changes: Seven brothers are supposed to fetch water for their just-born sister for her baptism. They take a long time, however, so that they are cursed by their own father and therefore turn into ravens. As a girl, the sister goes in search of her brothers. A fairy tells her to be silent for seven years and to sew seven dresses; then the curse would be lifted. A prince marries the sister, whose two eldest children also become ravens and fly away, causing the sister to be accused of witchcraft.
The film is a stop motion-animated fairy tale, based on the story of the same name which was collected by the Brothers Grimm. The tale was published by the Brothers Grimm in the first edition of the Kinder- und Hausmärchen in 1812, under the name "Die drei Raben" (The Three Ravens). In the second edition, in 1819, the name was retitled Die sieben Raben and substantially rewritten. Their source was the Hassenpflug family, and others.

On Approval
George is the 10th Duke of Bristol, and his wealth has largely been spent, but he has no intention of settling further into genteel poverty. George is enormously appealing to Helen Hale, a good-natured American heiress, and is equally appalling to Maria Wislack, an Englishwoman of considerable means. The imperious Maria is doted over by the eternally devoted Richard Halton, who worships her. Maria decides that she will marry Richard -- after he spends a month with her in a secluded Scottish castle, where she will try him out "on approval." Maria, however, does not intend to discover whether they are suitable for all aspects of marriage; every night he is to row across the loch and spend his nights at a local inn. Neither Maria nor Richard will lack for company, as George and Helen invite themselves along. Things get complicated when it turns out that there are no rooms available at the inn, leaving the men to share the castle with the women -- a prospect that so horrifies the servants that they promptly leave the two couples high and dry. Left to their own devices, the four get to know one another, and they don't necessarily fancy what they find.
The film is based on the 1926 play of the same name by Frederick Lonsdale.
