Dr. Shaviv - What are Cosmic Rays and How do they Affect our Climate?
Dr. Nir Shaviv, Chair of the Racah Institute of Physics and Professor of Physics at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, explains how cosmic rays affect climate change. Cosmic rays affect the formation of clouds which in turn affect climate change on earth. The evidence is clear on short term time scales of a few days to long-term time scales of hundreds of millions of years. Dr. Shaviv has an explanation in plain language on his blog "ScienceBits" The Milky Way Galaxy's Spiral Arms and Ice-Age Epochs and the Cosmic Ray Connection | ScienceBits http://www.sciencebits.com/ice-ages ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rre5KvvjIu4
Dr. Michael Connolly and his son Dr. Ronan Connolly have done an in-depth assessment of weather balloon temperature records. In this video, Dr. Michael Connolly explains that there is a significant difference in temperature between urban temperature monitoring stations and those in rural settings. This is well-known as the "Urban Heat Island" effect, where the heat generated by human activity, as well as the absorption of heat from the sun on black pavement and concrete, is retained in a kind of heat 'bubble' around a city, while in the country, daytime heating is dissipated by evaporation and wind. To find out to what extent the claim of 'global warming' is affected by this phenomenon (which might be an artificial claim), the Connolly's sought an independent data source that would not be affected by urban/human activity - they chose weather balloons. Dr. Michael Connolly discusses their findings. Their full presentation can be seen here on our blog: Balloons in the Air: Understanding weather and climate. https://blog.friendsofscience.org/2019/08/17/balloons-in-the-air-understanding-weather-and-climate/

Over 70,000 climate activists, government leaders and influencers are at COP28 - the big UN Climate Conference - set in fabulous Dubai, a miracle city that rises from the desert. One of the main objectives for activists is to phase out fossil-fuels to allegedly stop global warming. Imagine their shock when the president of this year's COP Conference, Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, said that there is 'no science' behind demands for the phase-out of fossil fuels! Of course this rather spoiled the party for the activist set; some had been dreaming of crushing Big Oil and Big Natural Gas; other had been planning to put a wealth or giant carbon dioxide pollution tax on Big Oil and Big Natural Gas; others had been dreaming of how to force Big Oil and Big Natural Gas to finance the triple the renewables demanded by activists; other want to impose a global carbon tax LAW. No matter how you look at it, they are all using the fantasy claims of a climate catastrophe to try and pick the pockets of energy corporations, and to make ordinary people poor by driving up the cost of everything through these draconian energy taxes. This video explainer walks through some of what the reactions were and also gives people a glimpse of the energy and materials that went into the building of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, surely the most prominent reference to the miracles that hydrocarbons help humans create. But the climate cult is not amused by Sultan al-Jaber's comments and are just digging in their heels. Please support our work. Subscribe, like and share our videos. Joins us! An energy catastrophe is unfolding in the UK and many other parts of the world as energy prices soar and the UK is caught short with their vast wind resources idled by Mother Nature for 35 days...insufficient natural gas supply or storage....and a disabled interconnect line to French nuclear plants. Factories that produce carbon dioxide (CO2) as a by product, which is essential for certain types of food processing, have shut down due to high energy costs, and this domino effect is rippling through society. A cold, dark winter is ahead for the UK and much of Europe, but these problems will hit Canada, too. To counter even worse impacts, Canadians must demand full cost-benefit analysis of any proposed 'green' ideology like 100% renewables or Net Zero plans. Citizens must be able to review and see the impacts of these policies before they are implemented.

We are told that the 'science is settled' on climate change and that there is a 97% consensus of scientists who agree. How many people have looked into the data of these surveys? Friends of Science Society did. Here's a short clip reviewing the consensus survey by Doran and Zimmerman (2009/2011). Using some simple, three dimensional objects that represent the reported data from the peer-reviewed study, Michelle Stirling, our Communications Manager, makes it clear that the 'consensus' is not what you think it is. Likewise, 'consensus' researchers don't even agree! Have a look! You can review our report here: https://friendsofscience.org/assets/documents/97_Consensus_Myth.pdf

The City of Calgary, Alberta, is intent on stopping climate change and has established an $87 billion plan to reach NetZero, but does this make any sense at all? According the the Parliamentary Budget Officer, Canada's emissions do not materially affect climate change, and there will barely be any effect on Canada's GDP from climate impacts (the PBO uses the IPCC's own frameworks for calculation). Likewise, when one looks at Calgary's emissions in context, it is laughable that Calgary is going into deficit-financed 'grand plans' to stop climate change, when emissions in China outpace ALL of Calgary's annual emissions in the space of hours. Help us bring common sense and reason, and full cost-benefit analysis back to public policy on climate and energy. Canadians for Clean Prosperity claim that some Canadians could make more money back on carbon taxes than they pay in. Friends of Science disputes this notion in this short video clip and our rebuttal report entitled "Carbon Kleptomania." Fundamentally the thinking of Canadians for Clean Prosperity is flawed - as carbon taxes go up, businesses will shut down or leave, thus reducing the carbon rebate pool to nothing. In fact, to meet Paris Agreement greenhouse gas reductions, Canada would have to shut down all major industries. No industry. No jobs. No carbon 'dividend.' No Canada. Please read our report: https://blog.friendsofscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Carbon-Kleptomania.pdf
