OPCW: Former Director General, Jose Bustani, blocked from UNSC by US,UK, reads his statement
Today in the UNSC with Russia presiding, Vassily Nebenzia came up against the stonewall of UK and US member states when he attempted to get approval for Jose Bustani to brief the security council. The proposition was forced to the vote - 3 members for, 6 against and 6 abstained. Russia needed 9 votes to approve Bustani's appearance on video link.

The US and UK thought they had been successful in blocking the devastating statement. Unfortunately for them, Nebenzia, in his national capacity, read the statement out and announced that the video of Bustani reading his statement will be published on their website. Nebenzia castigated the UNSC for their censorship and lack of transparency, he told the members that never in the history of the UNSC had a President been forced to a vote to approve a briefer.

After the statement had been aired, the UK and US and other mealy mouthed member states tried to save face, unsuccessfully.
