Finding a quiet room to record voice overs or any kinds of clean dialogue can be a challenge. You may have a quiet room in your house but what if you don't? What if you have no choice but to shoot in a room with horrible acoustics for a time? In this video I'll show how to turn a room with poor acoustics into a temporary recording booth.
Obviously this sort of "booth" is no substitution for a real vocal booth but for an investment of less than $100, you can get components that will allow you to make even the most reverberate room less reflective.
Keep in mind that this video shows how to treat poor acoustics inside that room. It does not show you how to get that room quiet enough to record in. To learn how to get a room quiet, watch this video: https://youtu.be/bB8Jip5g_1k

Tom Buck is a friend of mine which makes this viewer requested reaction video extra fun. Tom's video about how to record great audio outdoors was requested as a reaction video so we're going to go for it. Let's see if Tom will still be talking to me afterwards...

When you shoot your own personal projects out in the real world with a limited or nonexistent budget, you still want to get the best sound possible. Spending your last $50 on a lavalier microphone after buying a camcorder, DSLR or mirrorless camera may leave you feeling like your sound will have that sterile, in your face closeness a lav provides but that's not necessarily the case.
In this video I'll show you a technique that will help your audio sound more like it's in the real world as opposed to from a lav mic. It only takes a few short minutes too.
In case you're wondering... yes, you do want low background noise in your tracks but I ask you... would you rather your tracks sound like a lav or more like it looks? Your choice of course and maybe you won't always want to use this technique but it's something to keep in your back pocket.

The video I'm reacting to in this video was requested shortly after it was released. I had already watched the video and didn't want do an unfair, preplanned reaction video so I sat on it until I forgot what was said. I was just sent a request to react to this video again and since I've forgotten what was said, now is a good time. Enjoy, with me, a reaction to Deity Microphone's video "How To Be A Boom Operator".

When you start looking for wireless microphones online there's a lot to consider. When looking for inexpensive wireless mics online, there's even more to consider. In this video I'll be going over things you need to consider when blindly buying wireless mic units online. Keep in mind I'm not listening to or endorsing any product in this video. This is an excerpt from the Sound Speeds Podcast.

Welcome to the twelfth episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. Again, I recorded on a GoPro Hero 4 Black in Linear 2.7K circa 2015. The question I answer in this video is about Premium XLR cables and if non-pros need to spend the money on them or will modern processing scrub the audio clean enough. For the pro sound topic in this episode I'm going to discuss honest with regards to vendor and manufacturer relationships. How it's good and how it's bad.
Audio notes:
The testing continues and this time I recorded on a Shure Twinplex TL-47 and recorded on a Deity BP-TRX. The audio was processed at 40.0% on the voice side in Clarity VX.

It's easy to compare sound to other forms of waves but they don't always compare as easily as you may think. In this video I compare sound waves to those of RF transmitted waves.

Welcome to part two of Can a "Bad" mic be EQed to sound "Good"? In the last episode I put you to the test to see if you could identify a cheap microphone that's been EQed to sound completely different. In this video I put a professional voice-over artist to the test to see if he can identify the cheap microphone while listening to the same voice-over clips.
When it came to finding an industry pro that you likely know and respect it was clear that I needed the Booth Junkie himself, Mike DelGaudio. In this video Mike digs in deep into both EQed and completely unprocessed voice-over tracks to try to identify a $17 microphone amongst $400-$500 large diaphragm microphones. Will he successfully identify the cheap mic?
