Jordan Peterson- engaging with conservative rebels
Too often the left fails to engage with conservative critics of modernity and this failure allows right-wing tropes and concepts to go unchallenged. For instance, if only the right will address the way social alienation creates a sense of meaninglessness and instability, then only the right will reach people who long for meaning and stability. Further, not answering the strongest arguments from our ideological opponents but merely denouncing them leaves us defenseless when our social authority wears out.
This Zero Books podcast is dedicated to Mark Fisher. It is a response to the lectures and videos of University professor and anti-PC youtube star Jordan Peterson.
Ben Burgis explains what ad hominem arguments REALLY are, explores Kant’s categorical imperative, and argues that YOU MUST BE A SOCIALIST. One must embrace the revolution or risk treating people as if they’re merely vending machines.

Zero Books Manifesto:
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
Zer0 Books wants to work against this trend.

A few months back this episode of Inside Zero Books was made available to our Patreon supporters. I'm releasing it now in an effort to encourage people to support us on Patreon and as a favor to a few listeners who said they couldn't afford to donate through Patreon but who wanted to hear the second half of this conversation.
Here's the original description:
Thaddeus Russell is a historian, author, and professor. He has taught history, American Studies, and the history of philosophy at Columbia University, Barnard College, and the New School for Social Research. He is also the host of the Unregistered Podcast.
In this second half of Russell's conversation for Zero Books he discusses Marx's LTV, why the working classes don't feel exploited, and why he believes both gender and the biological notion of sex is a social construct.
This half of the conversation does not just fade out at the end, but rather ends with Russell asserting his conviction that Lain is well on his way to converting to postmodernism.

Black popular culture has been viewed by some as the creative expression of Black American identity. What does it mean when those who create that popular culture don't belong to the class of Black folks they seem to portray while potentially fulfilling the worst trappings of underclass ideology regarding the Black poor?"

Douglas Lain was recently interviewed by Isabel Webster on Sky News. He appeared in opposition to the failed gubernatorial candidate Peter Lumaj in order to provide a left-wing take on Trump’s move to end the government shut down, and to comment on the meaning of and prospects for a potential border wall between the United States and Mexico.
