GROCERY SHOPPING in a WHEELCHAIR - Paralife Episode 27
This is how we cope with grocery shopping as a paraplegic. There are multiple options wheelchair users can use when grocery shopping some shops have special wheelchair trolleys but you could also use a normal trolley or a basket when shopping from a wheelchair
We (Craig and Claire) return home and attempt to go back to normal life 6 months after a cycling accident that left Craig paralysed from the chest down and reliant on a wheelchair. Join us as we learn what it's like to live with a spinal cord injury, discover the challenges wheelchair users have to face and overcome and search for wheelchair accessible hotspots. We want to show you how much paraplegics can still do and that there is life after paralysis!
Paraplegic Morning Routine and Bowel Program in Inaccessible Bathroom
With a spinal cord injury, gone are the days of rolling out of bed twenty minutes before you need to leave the house. A morning routine with a bowel program can take 2 -3 hours depending on how fast things are moving. Craig has two different morning routines since he only needs to perform his bowel routine every other day. In this video we show the longer of Craig’s morning routines (peeing, breakfast, stretching, bowel routine, bathing and dressing) and demonstrate why it can take 2-3 hours to get ready in the morning!!

Top 10 Places To Travel In The World | Where To Travel After Coronavirus
We normally make videos about wheelchair life but for those of you who don't know us in person, one of the things we are the most passionate about in life is travel. We've travelled together to many places over the last 5 years and travel was a huge part of our lives before Craig was paralysed. This year we were hoping to get back into travelling and we were due to spend all of 2020 travelling but like it did for everyone else a global pandemic threw a spanner in the works and we had to cancel everything. Today we were due to start the second part of our trip and should've been flying off to Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand for 3 months. So since we can't go, we thought we'd look back and share with you our favourite travel destinations of all time and show you some of the most beautiful places in the world that we can hopefully travel to again after coronavirus.
P.S. Make sure you don't skip number 2 - it's one of the most beautiful places in the whole world!

Paraplegic Wheelchair to Boat Transfer
We met up with Craig's parents who were on a barge holiday for the first time travelling along the Shropshire Union Canal. It was an interesting experience and we got to try out going through locks as well as riding over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen. This was not a specially adapted wheelchair accessible barge, it was just a normal inaccessible canal boat. It wasn't super easy for Craig and his wheelchair to get onto the boat but it was possible. We demonstrate how Craig transferred onto the barge and what the experience was like for him as a wheelchair user.

In this episode we challenge Claire to get into a wheelchair to attempt to do a 5k for the reeve foundations run&roll event to see what it's really like using a wheelchair to get around. The reeve foundation funds research and trials into cures and treatments for spinal cord injury so that hopefully one day less people will need to use wheelchairs. Many charities have been hit hard this year due to the cancellation of many major events which normally play a huge part in the funding of many charities so your support is more important than ever right now!

Can we convert a van into a campervan with limited DIY experience? | Campervan Conversion Carpeting, Roof Panels and Fixing the Bed
We were supposed to be travelling around Australia and New Zealand in a campervan right now. Since we had to cancel those plans we decided to buy a second hand VW Transporter T6 lwb kombi van and we're attempting to convert it into our own wheelchair accessible campervan. Neither of us have a huge amount of DIY skills and Craig's spinal cord injury brings an extra challenges to DIY so this will definitely be an interesting project! Hopefully we can prove that it is possible to self-convert your own campervan as both a wheelchair user and when you have no DIY experience.
This week we started with one of our least favourite parts of the van conversion so far - we carpet lined the wheel arches and back pillars of the van with 4-way stretch carpet. Then we painted our new ply roof panels and installed jack nuts on the roof and walls. if you watched the last video in our van conversion series you'll we had some issues with fitting the bed in the van so we also had to make some adjustments to that
We got our flat pack sliding bed from van furniture:

We got our pre cut ply roof panels from:

Paraplegic Wheelchair to bath Transfer
How to transfer in and out of a normal bath from your wheelchair as a paraplegic without help after a spinal cord injury.
In this video we show you how to transfer from your wheelchair into a normal bath and how to transfer back out of the bath. I use this transfer all the time and it always me to wash independently at home without an accessible shower. Even if you do have a roll in shower, this is very useful to learn in case you find yourself staying somewhere with an inaccessible shower. Knowing this transfer really helps us to be more flexible with accommodation options.
While this is an independent transfer, if you are new to this transfer we would recommend practising with someone else holding the wheelchair to stop it from moving.
We also have videos showing you how to transfer in and out of corner baths and low down baths so go check them out if you have a bath like that.

In this episode we insulate the floor using cork insulation and the walls using sheep's wool insulation. We are using cork and sheeps wool for the insulation because we are trying to be as sustainable as possible with this conversion and minimise our impact upon the environment. Sheeps wool and cork are also very easy to work with and they do not irritate your skin like other types of insulation. Sheep's wool is also great because you can pull it apart and stuff it into all the nooks and crannies. Then we install then plywood floor.
