Doctor Ben here! I just got my new Tenkara USA sato fishing rod! I've been waiting for it to show up for a few weeks. I'm super excited to try it out. I have zero fly fishing experience. I also haven't fished much since I was a kid.
Just the same I'm really excited to try it out. I found a new area to play thanks to google maps and I even managed to catch a couple fish. But I screwed up my knots once and lost a fly and didn't bring my needle nose pliers and lost another fly.
Despite that, it was still a good day. I think I'll try again tomorrow. There are more flies on the way! Look out bluegill!

Who want's to roast another sacred cow? Let's talk about your 1 rep max. The truth is, for most part your one rep max doesn't matter. Testing your 1RM is a pretty standard part of conventional strength training.
It makes sense if you're a competitive lifter but it's really not that important if you're just trying to be healthy or get into better shape. It's so dependent on so many variables that it just doesn't translate well to real life.
One rep max testing is very specific to the gym environment. There are a number of problems with it as a benchmark for fitness. I'll cover the three major issues as well as the good points of the one rep max, because hey! There's always some positive!

It doesn't seem like rolling over would need practice. We figured it out before we could walk. But the truth is, this natural movement teaches essential core, shoulder, and hip integration and it's still handy to practice now.
I'm going to show 3 ways to roll over today. One uses your arm for momentum, one uses your leg, and the last uses only you core. Rolling over is a foundational movement and it's the first step in the human movement progression.
While not an intense movement, its a great way to open up your hips and shoulders as well as improve spine rotation. Try out all three an lemme know which is your favorite in the comments. Did one method give you more troubles than the others?

Calorie counting is held up as the gold standard of nutrition. You can't lose weight without counting calories right? Eh, not really. Calorie counting is a useful tool but I don't recommend it to clients very often.
There are many reasons I don't. To start with, for most of human history it wasn't possible. The technique has only been available for about the last 100 years. For many people, it just doesn't fit into their lifestyle at best and at worst can lead to eating disorders and obsessive behavior.
If calorie counting is right for you, go for it. But for many, including myself it turns eating into a miserable experience and adds unneeded stress throughout the day. It is possible to fix your diet without calorie counting.

Today I'm talking about using movement with intention to address my shoulder restriction! I've been doing a lot of research recently on a lot of different modalities that work to recondition neurology. All of this sort of came together a few days ago and I decided to try setting a conscious intention for each workout and for each movement.
In just a few sessions, I've noticed that my body responds much more strongly to workouts I've set an intention for than workouts I haven't. In just a few sessions I've noticed that my shoulder is already loosening up. That's not to say that just the intention has made my shoulder loosen up, but that the corrective action is much more helpful when it's done thoughtfully!

I refer to myself as a lifestyle engineer. Recently I was asked what that was. I offered a short, quick explanation. However, I felt like giving a much more in depth response to what I consider a lifestyle engineer to be! In a nut shell, a lifestyle engineer is someone who lives consciously. They challenge the conditioning we all receive growing up and decide what is best for themselves rather than just defer to the predetermined path.
To live consciously is to actively design the lifestyle you want. You examine what it is you want and why you want it. You discard the things that don’t serve your design and acquire the things that do. It requires a lot of self-examination. It often requires doing things most people aren’t doing. You have to examine your life regularly and leave things that aren’t working. The payoff for being a lifestyle engineer is a life that you designed.

I've been having chest pain and breathing issue recently that make you legitimately wonder if you're dying. I've been trying all kinds of things to relieve the discomfort with little success. Just a few minutes ago I decided to check my scalenes for trigger points.
I should know better and should have started there but oh well. They were exceptionally tender indicating an issue. I decided to try something different than my regular release technique and had incredible results so I had to share it with you guys.
After about 10 reps total on both sides all of my issues basically relieved. This is the fastest release I've ever had! I hope it helps you out!
