Teen Hero: California Teen Returns Lost Purse, Inspires 3K Community Reward
Teen Hero: California Teen Returns Lost Purse, Inspires 3K Community Reward

Description: In an uplifting display of honesty and integrity, 17-year-old Adrian Rodriguez from San Diego restores our faith in the younger generation. After finding a lost purse in a grocery store parking lot, Adrian didn't hesitate to ensure it was returned to its rightful owner. The purse belonged to Eliana Martin but was mistakenly taken home by Melina Marquez due to an outdated address. Captured by a doorbell camera, this simple act of kindness sparked a community-wide search to identify and thank the young Good Samaritan. When asked about his actions, Adrian mentioned his mother's life lessons about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, and empathized with the situation by adding that he would want the same if he lost something. Touched by his honesty, the community rallied together, initially hoping to raise a thousand dollars as a reward for Adrian, but soon exceeding three thousand dollars. This story not only highlights Adrian's character but also the powerful impact of community appreciation for positive actions.

"Melina Marquez says a teenager rang her doorbell after he found the purse in a shopping cart at a grocery store. The driver's license inside belonged to her friend Eliana Martin, who used to live with her but hadn't updated her address since moving out. 'So my aunt heard the ring go off, and so she opened the door and received the purse. She was a little confused. It was in the parking lot. In the parking lot, yeah.' When Melina heard what happened, she was shocked. 'So I asked my aunt, I said did you get his name or did you at least give him like twenty bucks? And she's like no, I didn't know. And I was like oh my God, we have to find him.' The women posted the doorbell video to social media, and lots of people in San Diego shared it. Eventually, seventeen-year-old Adrian Rodriguez reached out to identify himself as the Good Samaritan. When asked why he went out of his way to return the purse, he answered, 'Um, my mom, my mom's told me since I was little to always do the right thing even when no one's watching. So that was nice. Also, he said, if I lost my stuff, I would want somebody to bring it back to me. So two good reasons.' The women also had a surprise for him because many of their friends and family reached out wanting to reward him. 'If you found him I put twenty. If you found him I put fifty. Yeah. So I told that Melina and Melina okay let's do come find me.' The women set out to raise a thousand dollars for Adrian and have since surpassed three thousand, proving that some good deeds do come around. 'He could have just taken whatever was in the purse, you know, and he didn't. He brought it back, and I think this just speaks a lot about him.' For Inside Edition Digital, I'm Mara Montalbano."
