Here in Mexico, with the forecast showing wind and rain, we discovered we were directly in the path of Tropical Storm Cristobal in an RV. Being in a coastal region, there was no higher ground anywhere close to consider moving. We decided it was the best option to gather supplies and closely monitor the ocean and rainwater levels in case we needed to make a quick exit to the hotel second floor. The storm made landfall on June 3 (our wedding anniversary) an hour west of us on the coast and began a slow counterclockwise circle around us for several days. The storm dropped over 12" of rain in the first 24 hours, causing immediate flooding and significant beach erosion. We were fortunate to avoid the worst of the flash flooding elsewhere in Campeche state, with news reports showing large tractor trailers swept off the roads. However local flooding made it quickly impossible for us to consider driving or evacuating the area. We didn't have a better option or location to move in order to avoid the storm. If you are in the path of this storm and have the ability to move your RV, you should do so if able. Our thoughts go out to those in the United States who are experiencing the effects from Cristobal after the tremendous flooding and damage inflicted here in Mexico.
