The life and career of renowned voice actor Melvin Jerome "Mel" Blanc. He began his over-60-year career performing in radio, but is best remembered for his work with Warner Bros. as the voices of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and many of the other characters from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies theatrical short films, in the Golden Age of Animation. Blanc was nicknamed "The Man of a Thousand Voices", and is regarded as one of the most influential people in the voice acting industry.

Sixty-five million years ago, a giant meteor hit the earth causing a global catastrophe that destroyed an estimated three quarters of the plants and animal species on the planet, including the mighty dinosaurs. Little was known about the survivors who lived in this post-apocalyptic world until a mining operation in Cerrejon, Northern Colombia — excavating coal cut from deep within the earth’s crust — exposed an important layer in the earth’s geological history laid down more than 10 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs. In 2003, when paleontologist professor Jonathan Bloch, University of Florida, first heard that this important layer had been exposed, he and his research team rushed to Columbia. He had spent his career studying this Paleocene period in the earth’s geological history. Could this be the lost world he’d been searching for?

What links Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and a priceless Celtic cauldron recently discovered at the bottom of a lake in Bavaria? In this film an investigation uncovers allegations of mafia involvement, an international fraud trial where millions of dollars are at stake and a forensic discovery that stuns the archaeological world and steers the mystery towards Himmler's SS shrine at Wewelsburg and Hitler's obsessive quest for the Holy Grail. This seemingly priceless and beautiful object has brought death and disaster to everyone who has attempted to own it but who did make it and why?

Learning to Crawl is the third studio album by British-American rock band the Pretenders. It was released on 13 January 1984 by Sire Records after a hiatus during which band members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon died of drug overdoses. The album's title of "Learning to Crawl" was given in honour of Chrissie Hynde's then-infant daughter, Natalie Rae Hynde. She was learning to crawl at the time that Hynde was trying to determine a title for the album.
Learning to Crawl was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. In the United States, it peaked at number five on the Billboard 200, making it the band's highest-charting album in the US.

In this Live History episode we use roman reenactment to bring to life what it was like to join the Roman Legions. This history documentary begins with the general process of recruitment for the Roman Army before providing a short recreation of the process. This involves passing a physical test, proving one's qualifications, and taking a Roman soldier's oath before the commander.
We hope you enjoyed this history documentary on life and death in the Roman army. Let us know what other topics you would like to see covered next!

Pigs Is Pigs is a 1937 Merrie Melodies short directed by Friz Freleng.
Notes:
This film was the second (and last) featuring the Family Hamhock, which Friz Freleng had apparently intended as a series of recurring characters. They made their first appearance in "At Your Service Madame" – this presented Mrs. Hamhock as a widow to whom her late husband had left a sizable inheritance. Rooted in the concept of morality, each of her seven children embodied one of the seven-deadly-sins; Piggy, of course, represented gluttony and was a clean freak. Leon Schlesinger didn't like this idea and Mrs. Hamhock's children would never appear again after this film. Mrs. Hamhock herself would make one last appearance in what would have been the next short in the series, "Wholly Smoke" (1938), with Porky Pig cast as her only child.
The scene at the end of Piggy leaping out of bed to dash downstairs to breakfast was reused footage of the shot that first introduced him in "At Your Service Madame".
"Pigs Is Pigs" is considered significant because it is the first ever appearance of Freleng's "hold the onions" gag.
"Pigs Is Pigs", like other Blue Ribbon reissues before July 1937, retains its original end music.
Some aspects of Piggy and his family were revived by Steven Spielberg in his Tiny Toon Adventures animated series. The character of Hamton J. Pig and his parents are a clear reflection of the Hamhocks. Like Piggy, Hamton has an incessant appetite and is a clean freak.
A clip of this short was seen as a Toonami montage for its tenth anniversary.
Goofs:
The animation appears crude by later Warner standards and contains some goofs.
Piggy's design includes a set of distinctive birthmarks on him; in the beginning, he has three – one on his head, one on his rear-end, and one on his right knee. Throughout the rest of the film, he has only the ones on his head and rear-end.
The birthmark on his head keeps changing sides -- see above pictures.
At the end, when the scientist is letting him go, he is standing behind Piggy, yet (for a moment) his first right toe is in front of Piggy's fat stomach.
Mrs. Hamhock speaks with a German accent through most of her scenes, but at the end, her normal accent from "At Your Service Madame" returns.
The newer Latin Spanish dub of this cartoon as seen on DVD releases and current TV airings erroneously gave Piggy Porky Pig's stutter in his speech for reasons unknown
In the crucible of World War II, Germany’s most brilliant scientists raced to create an arsenal of terrifying new weapons of mass destruction, even an atomic bomb. Before the war ended, they produced a series of technological firsts that were the basis for many modern-day air and spacecraft. This documentary highlights the inventions of Wernher von Braun, Werner Heisenberg, and many others.

The Cat That Hated People is a 1948 American animated short film directed by Tex Avery and produced by Fred Quimby. The cat's voice was supplied by Patrick McGeehan in the style of Jimmy Durante; incidental music was directed by Scott Bradley. The film borrows elements from the Warner Bros.-produced Looney Tunes cartoons Porky in Wackyland and Tin Pan Alley Cats, both directed by Bob Clampett.
Hot Cross Bunny is a 1948 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies theatrical animated short. The short was released on August 21, 1948, and features Bugs Bunny. The title is a play on the nursery rhyme Hot Cross Buns as well as a punny allusion to the basic plot premise.
Caricatures:
Lionel Barrymore as Dr. Gillespie
Danny Kaye
Notes:
Bugs' dance from this short would later be reused in the Tiny Toon Adventures episode "Prom-ise Her Anything".
Also when the doctor was going to get Bugs for an experiment notice the doctor's uniform turns blue, then turns blue again.
The scientist would later appear, minus the German accent, in the Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries episode, "The Tail End?"
Before the cartoon starts, the Warner Bros. Entertainment logo is shown in both the Stars of Space Jam: Bugs Bunny video tape and modern airings on CN and Boomerang.
The working title was "The Rabid Rabbit"
This was the first Bugs Bunny cartoon in the WB-owned TV packages (released August 1, 1948 or later) to be released.
The cartoon was reissued in the 1959-60 season, around the same time that the short "Unnatural History" was released, with the original closing replaced. It is the oldest released post-1948 cartoon to be reissued. Most cartoons from 1948 were reissued in the 1957-59 season.
The original "Bugs Bunny In" title to the cartoon was replaced when it was reissued in the 1959-64 season, due to the Merrie Melodies title being shorter than its normal length. The same thing also happened to the Blue Ribbon reissue titles of "Knights Must Fall", "Rabbit Hood", and "Homeless Hare".
This cartoon was supposed to be in the pre-1948 cartoon package due to production numbers, being before "Haredevil Hare", but since the cartoon was released after July of 1948, the cartoon somehow remained in the hands of Warner Bros.
The cartoon has been restored on HBO Max with its original opening and closing rings, along with the "Bugs Bunny In" title.
