Is this what the Arthurian 'Sword in the Stone' was?
A Corsican 'statue menhir' brandishing a sword? It's clearly a 'sword in a stone'. These are statue menhirs from Corsica. It would appear they are warrior gods or statues of old kings brandishing swords. Corsica, being an island location would have proudly maintained local tradition, distant enough from the ravages of religious reformers on the mainland, in order to do so. Hence, these works are preserved.

The sword in the stone would confer kingship according to a sacred ceremony also practiced in Ireland (Tara stone of Fal) and Scotland (Stone of Scone). It would perhaps contain the effigy of a sword.

You will notice that Arthurian legend describes a journey across the Mediterranean to the Holy Land. This possibly relates to a journey involving Corsica.

I also talk about other statue menhirs on the Baltic, once belonging to the Old Prussians. The Baltic would be a scene of more statue menhirs from the stone age, possibly set up by Amber traders on the coast.
