Likes are a critical part of ranking in YouTube because the YouTube algorithm uses likes and dislikes as a review of the video, so you could have a million views but if you have a lot of dislikes then the video won't be ranked very high in the search page, lower thirds help reinforce this because they remind your audience to like.
