RushFPV Tiny Tank VTX... it really is Tiny! Supplied by Banggood
RushFPV VTX's have always impressed me with just how clean and noise-free their picture is. This time I'm looking at something significantly smaller from them - so let's check out how their VTX's perform in a smaller package!
Once again, the YouTube version of the DVR does differ significantly from my goggle view. I don't know if it's the upscaling, or the compression or what, but for whatever reason, the resulting footage on YouTube looks much worse than when actually flying.
I've been sitting on this flight controller for a good few months - because essentially I needed a good reason to swap it out. With my original flight controller dead, I found a reason. Here are my adventures in getting it set up in my quad.
I mentioned the video from R U Sirius about using copper tape to shield your GPS wires - which certainly worked for me. His video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63FdNj9pAgM&ab_channel=R.U.Sirius

Here's a follow up video to my original Aurora 100 review (which is here https://youtu.be/hY_A_gaxQ70) In this one we examine how much you can torture the supplied lipo (not really recommended), how you can set the PIDs (and other stuff using the OSD), how the failsafe works.... and finally we get out for a bit of a fly.
Those lovely people at Banggood sent me this awesome quad. Here's their (affiliate) link for it : http://bit.ly/2qgbQaW
In addition to this, the lipos are (at time of writing) back in stock and are here: https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-Aurora-90-100-Mini-FPV-Racer-Spare-Part-2S-7_4V-450mAh-80C-Lipo-Battery-p-1133968.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ
Here's the link for the 2nd lipo raw flight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GGbHpfjdpI
I'm looking forward to getting a nice stack of them, because quite honestly you are really starting to get into it after 3 minutes, but then your lipos are all gone and you are forced to stop :( I'll be checking out some alternative lipos as well.

I built my Tricopter from David Windestål excellent plans on his rcexplorer.se site. This was the Tricopter 2.5 plan, which I built in February 2012. This was before I even owned a radio, let alone FPV gear !
You can look back over my videos at that time if you want to see how it went... but *spoiler alert* I crash.... a lot.
The Tri has been hanging on the wall not doing an awful lot in the last few years, so I decided it was time to drag it down and see if it would fly !

This is part 1 of this review. Whilst I'm not a fan of a "bench review" it's going to take me a little time (especially with the weather) to build and fly the quad I have lined up, but I think it should be fun to try it out once we get there.

Let's return to Open.HD at last! In this part, I'm going to revisit the ground vehicle setup in order to try and get some goggles working, whilst also attempting to improve the DVR recording so I can show you guys what's going on. This should be the last ground vehicle Open.HD video before I move over to an Open.HD config on a quad.
Here's a link to the blog post talking more about the setup https://www.currykitten.co.uk/open-hd-a-new-setup-and-config-guide/
You can find out lots more useful things for Open.HD in their project page https://github.com/OpenHD/Open.HD
This project isn't part of a review series or sponsored by anyone (although I did get the Zeus F7 flight controller and GPS/Compass for free from HGLRC so below are a few (affiliate) links to check out their stuff)

Here we have a cheap and simple multi-functional battery protection board, but it can be used as a lost model finder as well - so let's see how it does.
This was supplied for review by Gearbest, so here's an (affiliate) link to the product page https://www.gearbest.com/multi-rotor-parts/pp_1051940.html?lkid=14759619
To use it as a dedicated lost model alarm, I would strap your battery to the board (keeping the balance plugs inside the strap, and then, with another strap, attach the whole lot to your quad - if should survive a lipo disconnection then.
Take a look at the Gearbest treasure hunt promotion here https://www.gearbest.com/activity-super-treasure-hunt-2018.html?lkid=15556268

With ELRS 3.4 now released, it seems a good time to add Wifi joystick support into my FPV Sim. Whilst you can also use this on Android, there are better methods to use - which I'll go through.
Just search "CurryKitten" in your appropriate App store and you should find the sim - if you haven't tried it already. If you already have it, then it should update for you.

I've gone over to the darkside and bought a Naza. Not so much about being easier to control, but being more portable. As much as I love my Tri, it's a right bugger to get to places to fly with it, so the DJI 450's more compact body should come in handy.
It went together wonderfully easily, the only pain was the DJI's registration software seemed to be down last night, so I had to wait about 8 hours before I could use the Naza assistant software to do the config
