Imagine flying a plane so high that the world looks spherical and the sky is pitch-black. The Mikoyan Mig-31 fighter is the only jet plane in the world to make it possible to fly on the very edge of space.
With an incredible speed of 3,000 km/h, the Soviet-designed interceptor is the world’s fastest serving aircraft, and it can fly twice as high as a commercial flight. Travelling at more than twice the speed of sound, the MiG-31 can touch the stratosphere and breach what's known as the Armstrong limit. beyond which a pilot’s tears and saliva would boil without a pressure suit.
Even at such incredible heights, the MiG-31 can still deal with its enemies. The fighter is armed with long and short-range missiles that can be launched against high-speed targets.
At Khotilovo air base, RTD attempts to give viewers a first-hand experience of near-space travel aboard this unique aircraft by mounting cameras on the airframe and inside the cockpit. See what breaking the sound barrier looks like and why, despite being designed in the 1970s, the MiG-31remains at the top of its game and unrivalled to this day.

Investigative journalist Jurij Kofner is a German citizen. To question the extent to which his country’s policy decisions are influenced by America’s agenda, he explores Germany’s post-war history to understand how relations with the US were formed. He also looks into the dynamics of the two countries’ cooperation under the umbrella of NATO.
Today, America’s largest permanent military operation outside the US is in Germany. The American government uses Ramstein as a base for its controversial drone operations. Local citizens, who question the legitimacy of the arrangement, discover they have no say in what some foreign powers can do in their own country.
In 2013 it emerged that the German chancellor and other politicians had been spied on by American Intelligence. The phone tapping scandal damaged trust between the countries and raised questions about whether theirs was truly a relationship between equal partners. Jurij Kofner meets politicians, independent journalists and other independent experts; they all suggest that America’s meddling in Germany’s affairs didn’t end at just tapping phone lines. According to some, American NGOs wield influence over German media by offering journalists “grants” in return for writing articles that steer readers towards sympathy with American interests. There’s also a US-funded youth education programme that allegedly seeks to indoctrinate Germany’s young people with a US-friendly agenda.

RTD followed the Crimean Bridge construction project with former boxing world champion and now Russian State Duma Deputy Nikolay Valuev, who tries his hand at being a bridge builder. The film also uncovers the region’s hidden gems with Kerch native, singer Alyona Sviridova, who meets Crimeans for whom the bridge link is vital.
With the bridge deck 35 metres above the water, the giant structure stretches 19 kilometres (12 miles). The bridge is expected to carry up to 40,000 vehicles and 94 trains a day, once it becomes fully operational in 2019.
Although plans to span the strait with a bridge date back to the 19th century, the link became a practical necessity for the peninsula, which only has a land border with Ukraine, after Crimeans overwhelming voted to rejoin Russia in 2014.
Nikolay Valuev begins his journey at the construction camp on the Taman Peninsula, where he joins men and women working on the site. To get the first-hand experience, Nikolay tries various jobs, from welding large metal tubes for future piles, to pouring concrete and operating an elevator which lifts builders onto the arches.
The installation of the 6,000-ton arches marked a milestone in the construction of what is said to be the longest bridge in Europe and one of the largest in Russia.
The link will significantly cut the time people have to spend on the road, queueing at the busy ferry crossing, often troubled by bad weather. “It took us three days of waiting in line to get on the ferry out of Crimea and a week to get on the ferry back,” says Yulia, who drives a truck from the resort city of Evpatoria to Moscow.
Once complete, the bridge will also make it easier for holidaymakers to reach Crimea, a popular tourist destination for Russians. However, it’s not only the Black Sea resorts that are worth visiting.
From getting muddy in Lake Chokrak, dubbed the Crimean Dead Sea, to fishing for anchovies, and grocery shopping at Kerch market, Alyona shows some of the off the beaten track Crimean attractions.
Alyona meets a Crimean Tatar, named Reshat, who is searching for a bride. As he wants his future wife to be from Crimea, Reshat takes long, arduous journeys via ferry to the peninsula in pursuit of love.
“Never mind the wines, it’s the bridge that connects us,” Irina tells her sister.
With the Crimean Bridge now open to car traffic, learn more about the building of the much-awaited connection and get an inside look at Crimea’s must-see places.

As night falls in Athens, the city’s squares turn seedy, and middle aged European men can be seen chatting with teenage Syrian boys – a seemingly odd pairing of friends. Many of these youngsters are refugees who have resorted to selling themselves for as little as €10 just to eat. Some also choose drug pedaling and petty theft to survive. With no official documents or help from Greece’s immigration authorities, they are stranded in this horrific life. To escape, some consider abandoning their dream of living in Europe, and others even contemplate suicide.

When General #Gudin was buried in Smolensk at the start of #Napoleon’s 1812 invasion of #Russia, minus the leg that had been smashed by a cannonball, there were numerous eyewitnesses. Since then however, no one has ever known where his grave lay.
French and Russian archeologists each have their own views about the exact location of the body. Although they know success is never guaranteed in archeology, they join forces to dig around Smolensk Fortress over the summer of 2019, shadowed by an RTD crew. Gudin’s direct descendant, Alberic d’Orleans, has more than one poignant reason for hoping his ancestor will be found and brought home. As for Frenchman Pierre Malinowski whose brainchild the project was, the ex-soldier has moving plans for Napoleon’s friend.

Anna and Pavel survive in the woods. Pavel had to be a night sentinel after a gruelling day of training. As a result, he got almost no sleep. Another trying day is about to start, but Pavel has no energy for it. Meanwhile, Anna is suffering after a freezing night in the dump forest. She is not used to sleeping rough. As a result, she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Except she had no bed.
In these conditions, even army food seems delicious. However, the recruits don’t have long to enjoy it: the enemy ambushes them and they have to fight back, abandoning their meal. Drinking marsh water, digging trenches and a refreshing 5-kilometer run are next on the menu. The rain begins to fall to make their experience just a little bit more miserable. For once, Anna and Pavel agree about something: they both say it’s the worst time of their lives.

#Eternal life might not be attainable in the near future, but genetic engineers and doctors are working on new life extension technology. The research could lead to keeping our bodies young, and scientists are developing ways of downloading our brain’s consciousness onto digital media once the body is at the end of its life cycle.
