Misadventures in repairing electrical motors. In this case it's my 2x72 inch belt grinder that started making noises. Unfortunately I didn't order both sizes of bearings and the way that they were still spinning makes me question if they were really bad enough to need replacing but it's too late to turn back now so check later this week for part 2 and we'll see if it works any better.
I'm running several weeks behind on the video editing and posting so this was actually shot back when it was warmer a few weeks ago. I finally got the uprights placed and secured together. This is actually starting to look like something that will keep the rain off of me and my tools.
Last week I passed my Technician level amateur radio license! This weekend I received my callsign: KC1OBE. You'll be seeing more of amateur radio in our adventures but first I need to get a good hand transceiver. If y'all have any suggestions, please drop them in the comments below.
I was out on the acreage clearing up the old logging road when I came across these stumps already growing back from when I had cut them in the spring. This ability to regrow from roots is the basis for a couple of techniques called coppicing and pollarding. These allow for a lot of firewood to be produced in a sustainable manner. We'll talk more about these and other things that I'll be doing to manage the property in future episodes.
This ended up being just a video of me out snowshoeing on the property. The original plan was that I was going to have a part when I talk about several things but I tried using just the GoPro. The video was less than I wanted and the audio was even worse. I think that it's going to be a useful tool for me, but I need to spend some more time learning to use it. I'm still going to take this and throw it up there so y'all have something this week.
As I say in the video, I really didn't want to make this, but I felt like this is too big of an event to not say anything about. There are just a few thoughts that I have about what is going on.
This is part of the sailboat restoration. Here I'll be removing and surface prepping the centerboard. Warning, there is a lot of this that is just me sanding the centerboard. I've sped it up but I think that it's important that anyone who might be considering this kind of project understand what they might be getting themselves into.
Pardon me while I rant here but I've been seeing a lot of stuff blow up in my social media feed and I just had to say something. It's been a rough last couple of years and if history is any indication, we're looking at more crazy times ahead.
Bottom line up front: no matter who you are or what you believe you should be building yourself, your family, and your community and building them up in ways that they are healthy, resilient, and resistant to outside influence.
I'll be doing more on what I'm doing specifically but basically this what the whole channel is about.
