[Soviet Union/Russia] My Beloved City [English Translation]
From the movie "The Fighters (1939)", this song was sung first by Mark Bernes who would later be well known for his song "Cranes" which he had finished a year before his death due to cancer in the the late 60s. He was only 57 at the time of his death but he was well-known and loved throughout the USSR at the time. This song, "My Beloved City", was about Soviet pilots returning to Odessa after an unnamed war and having been to war for long, had desired to return to it after the war. This song, however, has fallen to history and has almost been left forgotten and has not been made in many covers unlike most Soviet songs.

The words were written by Aniello Califano and the music composed by Enrico Cannio in 1915. This version was sung by Bruno Venturini sometime in either the 50s or 60s.
This song is easily one of my favorites, and I'm certain my grandmother may have heard it before; but even if not, I'm certain she would have loved it.
