Titanfall 2 on Linux w/KDE Plasma & Wayland | No Dynamic Vsync = No Choppiness?
Let's give Titanfall 2 a spin on KDE Plasma 5.27 with Triple Buffering instead of Dynamic Vsync. I'm still having to capture the whole window with Wayland because the window can't be selected with the game is minimized.

It's time to look at the top 5 Linux distros to watch for in 2020! The Linux distributions in this list aren't the flashiest but there's reason to be excited for each of them as we enter 2020!
I've done videos similar to this in previous years but I hope to feature each of these videos as standalone Distro Delves episodes (yes, even SteamOS!).
Not all of the distros in the list are Linux Desktop distros and it sort of foreshadows future Linux distro review videos.
For folks looking for spoilers, here's the list of distros I talk about in the video:
* Ubuntu 20.04
* elementaryOS 6
* Solus
* Nitrux
* SteamOS
* openSUSE 15.2

A face-off between the two great rolling-release distros!
Not everyone is aware that openSUSE Tumbleweed is a fully stable rolling-release Linux distribution, just like Manjaro is! Tumbleweed and openSUSE Leap 15 are similar but Tumbleweed is the rolling variety.
For this video, we'll be looking specifically at the KDE flavor of both these Linux distros.
In the grand scheme of things, the two distros are very similar and either make a great choice for users looking for a rolling release style of Linux distribution.
In my opinion, Manjaro is more geared towards the every-day user with more applications installed out of the box and easy access to the AUR (Arch User Repository).
OpenSUSE Tumbleweed is geared toward veteran Linux users and power users who want full access and control to their systems but also want enterprise-grade security and reliability.

Let's talk about Wine & SteamPlay and how it compares to running Windows 10 inside VMware Player for Linux Gaming.
SteamPlay is a few features built into the Steam on Linux. It makes it so you no longer need Lutris or Play On Linux to run your favorite Steam Windows Games because, with Steam Play, they are built into your normal games library in Steam!
SteamPlay is *not* Wine. It is the brand-new for an open-source project called Proton which includes Wine, Dxvk, Ffmpeg, and more projects.
I've covered VMware Workstation Player in other videos but I've never compared gaming on VMware with Wine. Attempting to use VMware as a gaming environment has it's own issues because VMware was never designed with performant 3D rendering in mind.
The bottom line is - in many cases, VMware offers better compatibility with games and applications than Wine does. However, because VMware is virtualization and Wine is not, SteamPlay is going to offer better performance in general.

The live streams are always rife with technical difficulties and the issues with playing audio for the media tests tend to be the ones most funny.
Yakaty Sax was the theme song to the Benny Hill show and I used it as a joke for the audio media tests.

NVidia is known on Linux for their excellent driver support. Let's use this entry level card to measure just how good their driver support is.
This video is not meant to be a response of any kind to my previous AMD video. I actually had both of these videos planned back in December but never got around to them until now.
Lots of folks disagreed with my assertion that AMD cards and drivers aren't great on Linux, especially when compared to their Nvidia counterparts. While this video is not meant to be any kind of benchmark, it does show that even entry level Nvidia cards do just fine on Linux.
The distro I used for these clips was Fedora 27 on my EVGA Nvidia GT 730 low-profile card and driver version 387.34. Roughly same performance can be seen in Linux Games on Ubuntu 17.10.

From my boy beachbear's perspective. We just chillin' and suddenly BAM. But also, why is the gas station blown up? GTA Online is probably my favorite game for just this reason.

Wayland has been in the works for years but do the Nvidia drivers play nice with it yet?
Short answer is No. However, RedHat and Nvidia are working together to fix that. Perhaps not in the way that certain members of the Linux community would prefer but still, collaboration is a good thing.
I tried out the Copr repo from the Nvidia folks on Fedora 26. That repo doesn't appear to support Fedora 27 yet, which is a bit odd, however it is probably meant to be a proof of concept anyway.
What's interesting about this whole mess is that the KDE developers have absolutely no intention of having Nvidia work with Kwin as a Wayland compositor.
If Gnome implements Nvidia's egl-stream method for Wayland compatibility, there may be a giant fracture in which DE's support Nvidia, and which ones don't.
