LG Bluetooth Headset Dissection - Total Destruction.
LG Bluetooth Headset Dissection.
Up on the slab today, a working LG Bluetooth Headset / headphone / wireless earbuds perfect for your iPhone 7 plus or Samsung Galaxy s7 edge. They're not the best earbuds of 2019, but they still work.
But not for long... Soon it will be a pile of parts for your Arduino project. Make no mistake. This isn't a headset review. It's not even a bluetooth review. It is a dissection.
So, the other day I Found this 1975 Sounddesign flip-clock at the thrift store down the street.
Paid them $5 for it and took it home.
Cosmetically, this thing is fairly good shape. There aren’t any major scratches. All but one of the control knobs are account for. However, the switch legend has been worn away in areas.
Mechanically, the clock appears to turn as it should, but for some reason, the motor isn’t running.
Electrically, the switches have connectivity issues and have to be jostled around. The radio turner seems to be in great shape but the volume and tone knobs make a horrible noise when moved.
The restoration starts with a complete dissection...

While working on the Votrax Voice functions, I decided to do some circuit bending and apply a modulator to Formant 1 of the "e" and in "met" sound. This wound up creating a fascinating modification of the original sound.
On the oscilloscope screen: The first row is the Speaker output. The second row is the Probe output.

This is a thrift shop rescue story.
In the life of a typical tool there comes a day when it is given away.
Broken, nonfunctional, and useless they find their way to attics, garage sales, and thrift stores.
But with just a little bit of work, they can have a new life.

The SoundginZ is a modern complex sound generator in a 20-pin Chip.
In this configure, on oscillator is generating a tone and a second oscillator is used to select which musical note the first oscillator produces AND the volume at which it outputs the tone.
The Probe node is connected to the SINE wave output of the second Oscillator so that we can visually see it - even though it isn't being output as audio. Interesting, the wave is being converted to a triangle and THEN to a SINE wave for a unique wave.
On the scope: The first row is the Speaker output. The second row is the Probe output.
Be sure to see the SoundginZ play list for more configurations.

In this configuration, a Lightsaber FX is created by attaching a PWM modulation to a basic 513Hz sine wave. Every parameter is modifiable in real-time and more nodes can be added to make all sorts of back-and-forth Lightsaber sounds. Subscribe to be notified when the full tutorial comes out.
The Speaker node has two inputs: Signal and Level. The Signal input is connected to the basic tone, and the Level input is connected to the PWM.
The Probe node is connected to the SINE wave output of the second Oscillator so that we can visually see it - even though it isn't being output as audio.
