What brain regions control our language And how do we know this?
The brain is key to our existence, but there’s a long way to go before neuroscience can truly capture its staggering capacity. For now, though, our Brain Control series explores what we do know about the brain’s command of six central functions: language, mood, memory, vision, personality and motor skills – and what happens when things go wrong.
When you read something, you first need to detect the words and then to interpret them by determining context and meaning. This complex process involves many brain regions.
Detecting text usually involves the optic nerve and other nerve bundles delivering signals from the eyes to the visual cortex at the back of the brain. If you are reading in Braille, you use the sensory cortex towards the top of the brain. If you listen to someone else reading, then you use the auditory cortex not far from your ears.
A system of regions towards the back and middle of your brain help you interpret the text. These include the angular gyrus in the parietal lobe, Wernicke’s area (comprising mainly the top rear portion of the temporal lobe), insular cortex, basal ganglia and cerebellum.
These regions work together as a network to process words and word sequences to determine context and meaning. This enables our receptive language abilities, which means the ability to understand language. Complementary to this is expressive language, which is the ability to produce language.
To speak sensibly, you must think of words to convey an idea or message, formulate them into a sentence according to grammatical rules and then use your lungs, vocal cords and mouth to create sounds. Regions in your frontal, temporal and parietal lobes formulate what you want to say and the motor cortex, in your frontal lobe, enables you to speak the words.
Most of this language-related brain activity is likely occurring in the left side of your brain.
Coronavirus set to cause largest ever annual fall in CO2 emissions.
analysis showed that the crisis temporarily cut CO2 emissions in China by 25%, with emissions still below normal more than two months after the country entered lockdown.
With dozens more countries enforcing lockdowns in response to the pandemic, a wide range of indicators show how transport use, electricity demand and industrial activity are being cut. Yet there have been few attempts, thus far, to quantify the consequences for global CO2 emissions.
To date, most global estimates have been based on informed speculation, or on forecasts of reduced GDP growth. Many have also warned that emissions will quickly rebound, unless the response to the pandemic can create lasting, structural changes towards net-zero emissions.
Here, Carbon Brief gathers the latest evidence on how the coronavirus crisis is affecting energy use and CO2 emissions around the world, as a way to sense-check the GDP-based estimates.
Five key datasets and projections are identified, covering roughly three-quarters of the world’s annual CO2 emissions, including the entire output of China and the US, the EU carbon market, the Indian power sector and the global oil sector.
Carbon Brief analysis of this data suggests the pandemic could cause emissions cuts this year in the region of 2,000m tonnes of CO2 (MtCO2). Although this number is necessarily uncertain, countries and sectors not yet included in the analysis can be expected to add to the total.

It is a very popular street food,The demand for this food is highest in the state of Maharashtra, India. The main ingredient in this dish is bread.
Kalakand is traditionally made from curdling the milk on the stovetop, reducing more milk and adding to it, adding sugar to it and reducing it further. But I love recipes that save time and taste just as good. So instead of Boiling the milk and curdling and reducing the milk, I used readymade paneer and sweetened condensed milk. The result was soft and delicious Kalakand in minutes. Try it, I am sure you’ll love it too.
Ingredients
Paneer 300 gms
Condensed milk 1 can
Powdered milk 50 gms
Milk 2 Tbsp
Cardamom powder 1/4 Tsp
Pistachios - 2-3 Tbsp cut in thin slivers
Method
Step 1
Crumble paneer to a not very fine powder. Mix milk powder to crumbled paneer.
Step 2
Keep a heavy bottomed pan on the stovetop and heat the condensed milk on very low flame.
Step 3
Add paneer and milk powder mixture to the pan containing warm condensed milk and mix well. Add Cardamom powder and half of Pistachio slivers.
Step 4
Keep stirring. Soon the mixture will become thick and will start leaving the sides of the pan. Remove it on a butter paper or a parchment paper.
Step 5
Spread it evenly in a foil lined deep dish. The layer of the mixture should be about 3/4 inch thick. Use a ring or square made out of kitchen foil to contain the spread if you feel so. Garnish it with the remaining Pistachio slivers.
Step 6
Let it cool completely (keep it in the fridge for some time if you want). Take a knife and cut squares.
What Is Virtual Currency?
Virtual currency is a type of unregulated digital currency that is only available in electronic form. It is stored and transacted only through designated software, mobile or computer applications, or through dedicated digital wallets, and the transactions occur over the internet through secure, dedicated networks. Virtual currency is considered to be a subset of the digital currency group, which also includes cryptocurrencies, which exist within the blockchain network.
