Potato Leaved Tomatoes | Why Do They Make Seed Saving A Challenge
Potato leaved tomatoes why do they make saving seeds a challenge? Saving tomato seeds is usually a pretty easy thing to accomplish to keep varieties pure as the separation distances needed are generally pretty small. That is of course except for potato leaved tomatoes which have a much larger separation distance due to their more complete flower which makes seed saving a challenge!

The Manure Pile Black Gold
On another cold January day something is cooking behind the barn. Our manure pile. The microbial action going on in the pile generates heat and despite the bitter cold temperatures the pile keeps breaking down in preparation for a harvest of compost for our gardens.
We just wanted to share this as we use a variety of animal manure in this pile mostly from daily cleaning of our barn. The pile ends up as a mix of bedding (coarse hay, straw and wood shavings) and of course poop. Anyways hopefully you enjoy this short video on one thing we do to help build our soil on farm. Don't forget to like, comment and if this or other homesteading adventures interest you subscribe!

Today in the garden, we are harvesting food for winter out of a garden that needs to be planted. Around here, many of our herbs and "weeds" grow wild and crazy. so as we thin and clear out areas, we harvest that food for the winter season. This year, since we are participating in the #50dollarfebruary2023 challenge, it is very important to be sure that we are getting enough food stored away for the winter months.
Thanks so much for watching!

The pantry challenge continues. In this exciting update, we've reached the last week of the #threeriverschallenge pantry challenge in February 2023. Our family has continued to thrive on this fun and unique journey by switching up our meals and getting creative with the ingredients we have on hand. Throughout the challenge, we've discovered new recipes and found clever ways to use what we already have, such as the beet pulp from our homegrown sugar beets. The pantry challenge has been an amazing experience that's pushed us to think outside the box and embrace sustainable living.

Winter Feeding Sheep | Sharing Our Method Of Feeding Hay
In todays video, we share our method for winter feeding our Icelandic sheep. On our Canadian homestead, winter can be long, but these sheep are hardy and made for it, but prolonged hay feeding can lead to a lot of madder left behind, which can be a really good thing.

We Need More Garden Space with 55 lbs of Potatoes Left to Plant
The title says it all, we need more garden space! We may have gone a little over the top with potatoes this year, as we stored a pretty large number of seed potatoes expecting that it may be difficult to get some of the varieties we grow. Now we have to find spaces for them all!
Hope you enjoy this video
