Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH, is a clinician scientist and a physician certified in public health and preventative medicine, with a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree. Dr. Lanphear has studied the impact of toxic chemicals, including lead and pesticides, on children's brain development for over 20 years. His research has been almost exclusively funded by federal agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Health Canada. He has served on multiple scientific advisory boards for the EPA and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and has earned various awards for his work, including the Research Integrity Award from the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology and the Advocacy Award from the Academic Pediatric Association. Dr. Lanphear is well-known in the environmental science community for authoring seminal research on the neurotoxicity of low levels of lead. His blood lead research, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), was cited by the EPA as the critical study upon which the agency based the current national air standard for lead. He has also co-authored several landmark human studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on fluoride and the brain. He works as an investigator at BC Children's Hospital and as a professor of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University.
