KHILAFAH: (WORLDS APART) RT - Anjem Choudary
RELIGION OF ISLAM
Indeed, all praise is due to Allah. We praise Him and seek His help. Whomsoever Allah guides there is none to misguide, and whomsoever Allah leaves to stray there is none to guide.
I testify that there is no god except Allah alone, who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger As for what follows:
The purpose of this series is to clarify the reality of Islam and the necessity of the Jama’ah. We ask Allah to grant both us and you understanding of Islam and to keep us firm in the Jama’ah of the Muslims.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved Islam as the religion for you”
(Surah Al Maidah 5:3)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) also said,
“Indeed, the religion with Allah is Islam”
(Surah Al ‘Imran 3:19)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) also said,
“And whoever desires other than Islam as a religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers”
(Surah Al ‘Imran 3:85)
Thus, the religion which Allah is pleased with for the people and other than which He does not accept from them is Islam. Its reality, both linguistically and religiously is: salamah, meaning ikhlas, and istislam to Allah, meaning submission to Him.
Taken from the book An-Nubuwwat by Ibn Taymiyyah as follows:
Abul-‘Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (رحيم الله) said,
“Islam is to submit to Allah alone, and the term Islam encompasses istislam (submission) as well as having ikhlas (sincerity) in this istislam to Allah …
So, whoever does not submit to Him is not a Muslim, and whoever submits to other than Him the same as he submits to Him is not a Muslim, and whoever submits to Him alone is a Muslim,
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
‘Yes [on the contrary], whoever submits his face in Islam to Allah while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve’
(Surah Al Baqarah 2:112)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) also said,
‘And who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah while being a doer of good and follows the religion of Ibrahim, inclining toward truth? And Allah took Ibrahim as an intimate friend’
(Surah An Nisa 4:125)”
(An-Nubuwwat)
Abul-‘Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (رحيم الله) also said,
“The Islam which is the religion of Allah and for which He revealed His books and sent His messengers … is that the slave surrenders to Allah, the Lord of the creation, submitting (istislam) to Him alone without making any partners for Him, and becoming exclusively for Him (salamah) such that he takes Him as his deity without taking other than Him as a deity, as is clarified by the best of speech and the main pillar of Islam, the testimony of ‘la ilaha illallah.’ And it has two opposites: kibr [haughtiness] and shirk.
Narrated by Abdallah Ibn Amr (رضي الله عنه) that,
Nuh (عليه و سلم) ordered his sons with ‘la ilaha illallah’ and subhanallah,’ and forbade them from arrogance and shirk
(Ahmad)
This is because the one who is too haughty to worship Allah does not worship Him and therefore does not submit to Him, and the one who worships Him and also worships other than Him is making partners for Him and he is therefore not exclusively for Him. Rather, he has shirk towards Him. And the word ‘Islam’ comprises both istislam and salamah, meaning ikhlas”
(Al-Fatawa)
Abul-‘Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (رحيم الله) also said,
“and both the mustakbir [the haughty person who does not worship Allah] and the mushrik are not Muslims”
(An-Nubuwwat)
Thus, a person cannot be a Muslim except by adhering to Islam in both of these aspects, so whoever doesn’t submit to Allah – such as one who abandons all actions or forcefully resists some of the manifest, mutawatir ruling is nothing but a kafir, and whoever isn’t exclusively for Allah – such as one who worships the prophets and the righteous, whether blindly following others or having misunderstandings – is nothing but a mushrik, even if he prays, fasts, and claims that he is a Muslim.
These realities are manifested by the testimony of “la ilaha illallah.”
Abul-‘Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (رحيم الله) said,
“The ‘ilah’ is the one who is worshiped and obeyed” deserving so
(Taysir Al Aziz Al Hamid Fi Sharh Kitab Al Tawhid)
Thus, there is none deserving worship or obedience except Allah. This statement encompasses the meanings of both salamah and istislam, and it is the da’wah of all the prophets and messengers to their peoples and nations.
Abul-‘Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (رحيم الله) said,
“The word ‘Islam’ has two meanings.
The first is the common religion The Sahabah (رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ عنهم) had consensus that there is no Islam without submission, so they made takfir of the one who abandons the prayer due to laziness, as he is one who has completely abandoned action.

HIDDEN-HYPOCRISY---Anwar-Al-Awlaki
FEAR OF HYPOCRISY
Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said that,
Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said,
“Whoever dies without taking part in a battle and without intending to take part in a battle, has died with a trait of hypocrisy”
[Sahīh Muslim].
Therefore, abandoning jihād is a trait of hypocrisy. So be wary of it or else it may seize you by your heart.
Hasan Al Basrī (رحيم الله) said,
“No one fears hypocrisy except a believer, and no one feels safe from it except a hypocrite”
[Jāmi’ Al Ulūm Wal Hikam]
Ibn Rajab (رحيم الله) said,
“Sahl At Tustarī said,
‘The murid (devout worshipper) fears being afflicted with sins, but the ‘ārif (knowledgeable slave) fears being afflicted with kufr.’
For this reason, the Sahābah and the righteous Salaf after them were afraid of nifāq (hypocrisy) for themselves, and their worry of nifāq was severe.
Therefore, the believer is afraid of minor nifāq for himself, and he is afraid that such could overcome him prior to death and thus drive him into Major nifāq, as we mentioned before that deeply hidden evils bring about sinful death”
[Jāmi’ Al Ulūm Wal Hikam]
So abandoning hijrah – the path to jihād – is a dangerous matter. In effect, one is thereby deserting jihād and willingly accepting his tragic condition of being a hypocritical spectator.
He lives in the West amongst the kuffār for years, spends hours on the Internet, reads news and posts on forums, only to be encompassed by the verse.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says:
They think the companies have not [yet] withdrawn. And if the companies should come [again], they would wish they were in the desert among the Bedouins, inquiring [from afar] about your news. And if they should be among you, they would not fight except for a little.
[Surah Al Ahzāb 33:20]
On should ask himself, “What is the assurance that I’m not encompassed by this verse or others like it?”
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) should also contemplate,
And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain." Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
[Surah At Tawbah 9:46-47]
Ibnul Qayyim (رحيم الله) said,
“Allah disliked their obedience due to the filthiness of their hearts and the corruption of their intentions, so He kept them back and made them sit. He hated their closeness to Him due to their inclination towards His enemies, so He expelled them and distanced them from Himself. They turned away from His revelation, so He turned away from them, brought them agony, did not make them happy, and ruled upon them with a just rule that leaves them with no hope for success unless they repent”
[Madārij As Sālikīn]
Ask yourself, “What is the assurance that Allah did not dislike my being dispatched? Maybe He saw in me a trait of hypocrisy which I cannot see, and therefore He banned me from jihād?”
This constant feeling of self-doubt should destroy one’s insides. In the recent past, sincere Muslims would weep and pray daily for an escape from the lands of qu’ūd (abandonment of jihād) to the lands of jihād, even if to live only as a soldier in constant wait for the opportunity to battle.
They would dream of going to Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Chechnya, Algeria, Somalia, and Waziristan, but to no avail. They knew that the only way for a man claiming a mustard seed of faith in his heart to preserve his faith would be to leave the West.

AL-WALA-WAL-BARA---Abdallah-Al-Faisal
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
(You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred)
(Surah Muhajila 58:22)
Meaning, do not befriend the deniers, even if they are among the closest relatives.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
(Let not the believers take the disbelievers as friends instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself)
(Surah Al Imran 3:28) and,
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
(Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger, and striving hard and fighting in His cause, then wait until Allah brings about His decision (torment). And Allah guides not the people who are the rebellious)
(Surah At Tawbah 9:24)
Sa`id Bin Abdul Aziz and others said that this Ayah,
(You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day...)
was revealed in the case of Abu `Ubaydah `Amir bin `Abdullah bin Al-Jarrah when he killed his disbelieving father, during the battle of Badr. This is why when `Umar bin Al-Khattab placed the matter of Khilafah in the consultation of six men after him, he said; "If Abu `Ubaydah were alive, I would have appointed him the Khalifah.'' It was also said that the Ayah,
(even though they were their fathers),
was revealed in the case of Abu `Ubaydah, when he killed his father during the battle of Badr, while the Ayah,
(or their sons)
was revealed in the case of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq when he intended to kill his (disbelieving) son, `Abdur-Rahman, (during Badr), while the Ayah,
(or their brothers)
was revealed about the case of Mus`ab bin `Umayr, who killed his brother, `Ubayd bin `Umayr, during Badr, and that the Ayah,
(or their kindred)
was revealed about the case of `Umar, who killed one of his relatives during Badr, and also that this Ayah was revealed in the case of Hamzah, `Ali and Ubaydah bin Al-Harith. They killed their close relatives `Utbah, Shaybah and Al-Walid bin `Utbah that day. Allah knows best.
A similar matter is when Allah's Messenger consulted with his Companions about what should be done with the captives of Badr.
Abu Bakr As-Siddiq thought that they should accept ransom for them so the Muslims could use the money to strengthen themselves. He mentioned the fact that the captured were the cousins and the kindred, and that they might embrace Islam later on, by Allah's help.
`Umar said, "But I have a different opinion, O Allah's Messenger! Let me kill so-and-so, my relative, and let `Ali kill `Aqil (`Ali's brother), and so-and-so kill so-and-so. Let us make it known to Allah that we have no mercy in our hearts for the idolators.''
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
(For such He has written faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh from Himself)
means, those who have the quality of not befriending those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they are their fathers or brothers, are those whom Allah has decreed faith, meaning, happiness, in their hearts and made faith dear to their hearts and happiness reside therein. As-Suddi said that the Ayah,
(He has written faith in their hearts)
means, "He has placed faith in their hearts.'' Ibn `Abbas said that,
(and strengthened them with Ruh from Himself)
means, "He gave them strengths.''
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
(And He will admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein. Allah is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him)

FOUR-BRANCHES-OF-TAWHEED---Abdallah-Al-Faisal
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good…
(Surah Al Baqarah 2:83)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good,
(Surah An Nisā’ 4:36)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, …
(Surah Al An’ām 6:151)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
(Surah 17:23-24)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
(Surah Al ‘Ankabūt 29:8)
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) said,
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice." And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
(Surah Luqman 31:13-15)
In these verses, good treatment of one’s parents follows the order of tawhīd and the prohibition of treating them wickedly follows the prohibition of shirk!
Narrated by Abū Bakrah (رضي الله عنه) that,
Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said three times,
“Shall I not inform you of the greatest of major sins?” The Sahābah replied, “Yes, O Rasūlullāh.” He said, “Associating partners with Allah and wicked treatment of one’s parents”
(Saheeh Bukhari)
Narrated by Abdullāh Ibn ‘Amr (رضي الله عنه) that,
He (صلى الله عليه و سلم) also said,
“The approval of the Lord is in the approval of one’s father and the anger of the Lord is in the anger of one’s father”
(At Tirmidhi)
It was also reported by the Tābi’ī Wahb Ibn Munabbih that, Mūsā (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) asked his Lord (سبحانه وتعالى),
“O Lord, with what do you order me?” He replied, “That you do not associate any partners with Me.” He asked, “And with what else?” He replied, “That you be dutiful to your mother.” He asked, “And with what else?” He replied, “That you be dutiful to your mother.” He asked, “And with what else?” He replied, “That you be dutiful to your mother”
(Az Zuhd – Imām Ahmad)
So how can the muwahhid ignore this obligation and commit the major sin second to shirk by treating his parents wickedly? And how can the muwahhid not thank them, speak good words to them, and accompany them with kindness? This kind treatment is obligatory even if they might be sinful, and even if they order him with sin!
But the muwahhid should always remember that he is obliged not to obey his parents in what entails disobedience of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) as ordered by these.
Narrated by Ali Ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) that,
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said,
“There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience of Allah. Obedience is only in good”
(Bukhārī & Muslim)
Ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) that,
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said,
“Upon the Muslim is to listen and obey in regards to what he likes and dislikes, except if he is ordered with sin. If he is ordered with sin, then there is no listening nor obedience [in sin]
(Bukhārī & Muslim)
Amongst the major sins that many parents order their children with is the abandonment of the fard ‘ayn jihād (jihād which is obligatory upon each and every individual).
They intentionally or unintentionally distort the meaning of various ahādīth on the obligation to obtain the permission of one’s Muslim parents before performing fard kifāyah jihād (jihād which is an obligation on the Ummah as a whole but not obligatory upon each and every individual). These ahādīth should be understood in light of other evidences.
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says in His book,
Say, [O Muhammad], "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger a

MILLATU-IBRAHIM---Abu-Waleed
Hudhayfah Ibn Al Yamān (رضي الله عنه) said,
“The people used to ask Rasūlullāh (صلى الله عليه و سلم) about good and I used to ask him about evil, fearing it might reach me. So, I said, ‘O Rasūlullāh, we were in Jahiliya and evil, then Allah brought us this good, so is there evil after this good?’
He said, ‘Yes.’
I said, ‘Is there any good after that evil?’
He said, ‘Yes, and it will be tainted.’
I said, ‘What is its taint?’
He said, ‘A people who follow other than my Sunnah, and take as guidance other than my guidance. You recognize good and evil from them.’
I said, ‘Is there any evil after that good?’
He said, ‘Yes, callers at the gates of Hellfire, they will throw into Hellfire whoever answers their call to it.’
I said, ‘O Rasūlullāh, describe them to us.’
He said, ‘They are a people from our skin who speak with our tongues.’
I said, ‘O Rasūlullāh, what do you advise I do if I reach that time.’
He said, ‘Stick to the jamā’ah [the Khilāfah] of the Muslims and their Imām [the Khilāfah].’
I said, ‘What if they have no jamā’ah nor Imām?’
He said, ‘Then abandon all of those sects even if you have to bite the root of a tree until death comes upon you while you are in that condition.’”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Hudhayfah Ibn Al Yamān (رضي الله عنه) said,
“The people used to ask Rasūlullāh (صلى الله عليه و سلم) about good and I used to ask him about evil.
I said, ‘O Rasūlullāh, do you see this good that Allah gave us, will there be evil after it like there was before it?’
He replied, ‘Yes.’
I said, ‘What is the salvation from it?’
He replied, ‘The sword [meaning jihād].’
I said, ‘O Rasūlullāh, what will come about thereafter?’
He said, ‘If Allah has a khalīfah upon the Earth and he strikes your back and takes your wealth, then obey him, otherwise die while you are biting upon the stump of a tree.’
I said, ‘Then what?’
He said, ‘Then the Dajjāl will emerge with a river and fire. Whosoever enters into his fire, his reward is incumbent and his sin will be cast away. And whosoever enters into his river, his punishment will be incumbent, and his reward will be cast away.’
I said, ‘then what?’
He said, ‘then will be the establishment of the Hour.’”
