When doing the Paper Mario Randomizer: Double Pain challenge, I began to realize that what I wanted was not a randomized playthrough, but something that was the same adventure, but more balanced and difficult. I had kind of done something like that for Super Mario RPG Revolution (which I promise I'll get done this year), but I wanted to see what had been going on in the Paper Mario hacking scene after experiencing some really neat changes that were made with the randomizer. Consider myself late to the party as Paper Mario has been seeing a LOT of work recently. This one seems to be one of the most well-known! I have played through the game for the most part, on the last Chapter of the game and have enjoyed it for the most part. I've watched videos and learned a lot about the content surrounding this game, but I've noticed that while they are plenty of video playthroughs, I don't see a whole lot of comparison in reference to the original game AND what this modification is actually doing. That is one goal of this guide and another would be to provide some insight on how to take out the enemies and bosses in the game, as there's a LOT to unpack! I have provided a blurb from the Readme for more information. For those wondering why I am not using the most recent version, which is supposedly v1.5.1, well... there's an issue with it. For some reason, there are parts where the game crashes (for example, trying to read your partners' letters for one and most notably, during the fight with General Guy). As a result, I went with a version that has given me no issues and has provided some officiality to the game itself. Also, this is the first video making use of hybrid commentary (live and post), that I've made and enjoyed putting together, excited for future videos of this and in general! --------README excerpt------- Often considered "The Dark Souls of Paper Mario", the mod is incredibly difficult. It was designed with elite challenge runners in mind, and unless you have extensive knowledge of Paper Mario, you may struggle with much of the content. For those players we offer **Paper Mario: Master Quest Jr** which has all of the content the original has, with a much more reasonable difficulty curve. The fact that it plays around with gravity, switching it with water and of course, there's a maze of spikes and death pits. Quite evil. However, the good news is that this stage is DEFINITELY shorter than the last one and easier too! The bad news is that there is one of the most frustrating bosses waiting for you at the end. After being thrown through the vehicle life grinder of World 4, the next one is certainly a step down in difficulty to some extent. While you won't be dying in one hit nearly as much, prepare to be at risk of falling in death pits as this level is LITTERED with them. And the way to get past them? Vines, it's ALL about the vines! Or the flying caged Tikis... Or the totems looking to tip you off and possibly crush you in their gaping maws. The forest is a truly troublesome place, but at least we've given the bird-bashing and mole-mashing a break now!
