The Weis Choice Podcast Ep. 5: Subbing So Far and Teaching During COVID
Today I discussed my experience getting into the education industry, some of my substitute teacher assignments over the last two years, and my background teaching in the middle of the COVID pandemic. Upon moving back home to Florida after spending two years in Rhode Island, I chose to reprioritize some things in my life, including my career. This podcast documents my journey up to this point in the teaching profession, and just like my students, I am always learning! Hope you enjoy the pod!!
On this episode of The Weis Choice Podcast, I discuss a recent road trip along Florida's Nature Coast meant to be an early Christmas present for my family. Things didn't go quite as planned but we made the most of it. This was just the beginning of our Christmas celebrations however, as we spent both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with extended family and got to enjoy good times with good people.

Was planning on discussing my portfolio and tracking the dividends from 2021 in this episode, but life had other plans! Sometimes things don't go the way we want and every time I sit down to record a podcast I've been in a bit of a funk. Instead of taking an absurdly long hiatus or giving up, I've chosen to be honest with you all and share some thoughts on where I've been mentally and emotionally.
Thank you all for your patience! We will be back on track soon enough.
Good morning, noon, and night everyone. This is the Weis Choice Podcast!
This podcast is a time-capsule of my thoughts, my journey becoming an educator, my investment portfolio, my reactions to world events, and more. I explore my inspirations in life, reflect on the experiences that have transformed me into the man I am today, and search for new sources of wisdom within my community and across the internet. Life isn't always a bull market, but we're going to continue looking on the bright side and invest in our future.

Recently, I tested positive for COVID-19 and I tell the story of my experience. Others in my life have battled the virus, including a family member who was hospitalized and given a 50/50 chance to live. I highly encourage everyone to invest in their body and their health. Health issues are complicated and all of our bodies react to things differently. Wishing everyone good health and well wishes!

I recently sat down and listened to an audiobook version of The Hanging Stranger by Philip K Dick. Its dystopian themes of conformity, conspiracy, and creatures from another dimension weave a fascinating tale following Ed Loyce and his search to discover why the people in town pay no attention to the body hanging from a lamp post in the park. The problems in town go deeper than he can imagine and his persistence proves to spell trouble for Loyce when he learns too much of the truth....
Spoilers ahead! If you want to listen to a free version of the audiobook feel free to visit the same link I used at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_MciZFlIQA.

Unfortunately, this decade provides no shortage of world events as Russia enters Ukraine. It is horrifying seeing these tragic actions take place and we stand whole-heartedly with the people of Ukraine and those who will senselessly lose their lives in this conflict. In this episode, we react to what's going on in Ukraine, ponder the effects of COVID on this event and this decade, and plead love in a world seemingly shirking optimism for rage.
Our hearts are with Ukraine.
Today's podcast sees us look over our investment portfolio in M1 Finance and its performance and dividend history since its inception. Topics discussed include how and why I got started investing, previous and current values of the stocks/bonds in the portfolios, our dividend history, the power of compounding, and our goals in generating passive income.

All of us educators out there have reached the summer break! And while not all of us have the summer at our disposal, getting through this most recent school year is a cause for celebration. Not everything is all laughter and smiles however, as we also take a look at the recent school shooting that occurred in Texas and give our thoughts on that.
In an effort to not bring the energy to too negative a place, I discuss various experiences and moments from the most recent school year and share my thoughts for my place in the profession moving forward. Teaching has been learning experience for myself as well as my students, and I'm proud to share that journey with you all as well!
Take care.

Legitimate drama or a staged attempt to get people to remember the Academy Awards even exist? That's not for me to determine, but these people are actors after all, so let's keep that in mind as we have a light laugh and dive into the incident that occurred at the Oscar's this past weekend.
Actor Will Smith struck Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife's medical disease, but now rumors are swirling that Smith may lose his only Best Actor award (which he received the same night as the drama) as a result. I normally don't care about celebrity gossip, and still don't, but found an opportunity to discuss respect, comedy, lines with family, and how men grapple with speaking their truth and defending themselves from disrespect.
As always, nothing to take too seriously. I don't wish either man any harm or ill-will. The world will move on from this silliness, as we should, but nothing wrong with a light-hearted episode to shake things up.
Take care and enjoy!
