Christian students were punished for believing the Bible's commands on sexuality.
A professor at a state-funded college has come under criticism for giving her class an assignment that required students to wear a gay pride ribbon all over campus. In response a group of Christian students who felt their rights were violated by the assignment have sought legal counsel to counter the professor's pro-homosexual agenda.
Dr. Linda Brunton, a psychology professor at Columbia State College in Tennessee, gave the assignment. According to the reports:
This spring, Linda Brunton, the lead faculty member in CSCC's Psychology Department, required her students to wear Rainbow Coalition ribbons in support of homosexual behavior for at least one day. A bankruptcy filing by cash-strapped Detroit would be unprecedented, but the city's situation differs so much from other troubled municipalities that it would unlikely become a model for others to follow, two analysts said on Wednesday.
On the U.S. municipal bond market, Detroit is widely followed as a test case for the deep losses demanded of holders of general obligation bonds.
"I wouldn't want to say that this is precedent setting," Jack Dorer, a managing director at Moody's Investors Service, said at a roundtable of four bankruptcy experts with Reuters Insider on Wednesday. "The situation for Detroit is just so unique. They are under dire financial straits, and I think the other high-profile bankruptcy cases that we've seen often involve things like enterprise risk, so it's different."
Alabama's Jefferson County, whose Chapter 9 filing now ranks as the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, was such an example, with its finances crippled by a sewer system project.

Palm Springs gun control plan draws protesters
About a dozen Palm Springs gun owners and activists gathered outside Palm Springs City Hall Wednesday, holding homemade signs and speaking out against an item buried at the end of a city council agenda.
The impetus for the protest was a discussion item the Palm Springs City Council planned to discuss Wednesday evening, about potentially tightening city gun control measures.

Constitutional experts cite ongoing problems with no-fly list criteria
On Thursday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy announced plans to issue an executive order barring anyone listed on federal terrorist watch lists from purchasing a gun in the state. But while the idea of “no fly, no gun” has found growing support following the mass shooting in San Bernardino last week, including that of President Obama, experts say such a policy may be unconstitutional.
The problem lies with the terrorist watch lists themselves, which are both secret and routinely updated without the typical due process given to those who are accused of breaking the law, such as court proceedings. Without a trial, the government can add anyone to watch lists who it believes may be a threat to national security—and exactly how the government defines such a threat isn’t even public knowledge.

Critics question using public dollars to bankroll a private business catering to affluent golfers
Cape Breton's famed Cabot Links golf resort has received a $2-million federal loan, bringing total government funding for the luxurious enterprise to almost $17 million.
The interest-free "repayable contribution" will go toward spa facilities, upscale culinary services and tennis courts at Cabot Cliffs at Broad Cove, the sibling golf course to Cabot Links, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency said Friday.
The latest loan will help the picturesque Inverness resort broaden its appeal for families, non-golfers and corporate groups, the agency said.
It's also part of an effort to attract more visitors to the remote resort and bolster tourism in the province, it said.

The state’s new Republican governor, Kristi Noem, signed SB 47 into law Thursday. The legislation permits residents to legally carry a firearm concealed on their person so long as they are allowed to possess one.

Texas State University Student Senate Requests Expanded Campus Carry
On Monday, February 20, the Texas State University Student Senate passed S.R. 2016-2017.14, “A Resolution to Allow Campus Wide Concealed Carry,” on a vote of 27 to 5.

Almost half of Canadians want illegal border crossers deported
Nearly half of Canadians want to deport people who are illegally crossing into Canada from the United States, and a similar number disapprove of how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is handling the influx, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Monday.
A significant minority, four out of 10 respondents, said the border crossers could make Canada "less safe," underlining the potential political risk for Trudeau's Liberal government.

A court in India has sentenced three men to hang, under a new law which carries the death penalty for those convicted of multiple sexual assaults.
The men were convicted of raping a photojournalist in Mumbai last year.
But they were also among five men sentenced to life last month for raping another woman in a separate incident in the city.
The trio are the first to be tried and convicted under the tough new law aimed at repeat sexual offenders.
Friday's sentences were announced at a court in Mumbai where Judge Shalini Phansalkar Joshi said: "There needs to be zero tolerance for such incidents," the Agence France-Presse news agency reported.
"A loud and clear message needs to be sent to society," she added.
Both the victims - an 18-year-old telephone operator and the photojournalist - were attacked last year. Both trials were completed within seven months in a fast-track court.
The 22-year-old photojournalist, an intern with a Mumbai-based magazine, had gone to the Shakti Mills - a former textile mill that now lies abandoned - with a male colleague on a photo assignment when she was attacked. Her colleague was beaten during the assault.

By this assumption, it appears to me the core principles of our banking system have been abandoned for corporate control and the loss of Canada's sovereignty with the aid of a corrupt Prime Minister Harper and his flip flop side-kick Mr. Flaherty. If Ottawa is the crime scene then, Canadians should demand a criminal investigation into their activities regarding ongoing hijacking of the Bank of Canada which is resulting in billions of dollars being paid in interest on Canada's national debt when all we had to do according to our constitution is print our money like Japan does. The Japanese do not pay billions of dollars interest for nothing like Canadians do. Why?

Donald Trump has opened a double-digit lead over his next-closest Republican rival, less than three weeks before the first votes of the 2016 presidential race are cast, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

Of the 175 people picked for the prestigious civilian honour last year, just over one third were women. About 7.4 per cent were members of visible minorities — up two per cent from the previous year – and 5.1 per cent were Indigenous, according to analysis by immigration and diversity researcher and former government official Andrew Griffith.
Velma Morgan, chair of Operation Black Vote Canada, called those figures "extremely problematic."

The “Participation Trophy” generation
A new study from the libertarian magazine Reason this week carried with it a pretty striking headline:
"65% of Americans Say Millennials Are 'Entitled,' 58% of Millennials Agree"
It seems that we have an entitlement issue with out young adults -- an issue even those young adults wholly admit to.
But perhaps nothing betrays this point like the following chart. Reason and pollster Rupe asked Americans whether kids who participate in youth sports should get trophies just for playing, or only for winning. A strong majority of Americans (57 percent) said only the winners, but then you look at the age breakdown.

Don’t Let the Race Baiters Divide Us
The America that I love, with all its warts and blemishes, voted for a black man to be our president 8 years ago and welcomed a black family into the White House. The America that I love, with all its faults and failings, reveres the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King and regrets the legacy of slavery and segregation. That same America is being torn apart today by race baiters and race agitators. We must not let them divide us.
We will always have racists and haters in our midst. We will always have provocateurs who feed on discord and strife. We will always have those who call for separation and division.
