Medals of Bravery were issued in the halls of congress to a New York Fire Department Dog who has worked hundreds of fires and a marine dog that has worked dozens of missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia without a single marine death.
“Animals in War & Peace Medal of Bravery” were also awarded posthumously to animals who passed while serving in the armed forces of the United States.
The medals were presented by members of Congress including pigeons that served in World War One and World War Two, a horse that served in the Korean War, and dogs that served in World War Two, the Vietnam War, and Afghanistan.
