Another surprise Tecmo game that isn't what I expected, and I'm glad that this isn't my expectation of them because it's not good. At least for me. It seems as if it expects you to be a pro from the moment you start the game. Everything absorbs damage like a sponge and it seems like none of the characters have any starting ability to do...well, anything...save one fighter and even those spread bullets are weak. Maybe I'm missing something, but considering that this is an arcade game, it seems to be doing everything possible to make sure you don't want to put in quarters to practice. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWmL-XJwBM8
Definitely better looking than the Sega CD version, but it highlights a lot of weird issues. Throwing the 3D capabilitiesw out the door, the 3DO had better resolution and a better CD-ROM speed over the Sega CD version. But was that worth the extra money? It really makes you realize why Sewer Shark was a legitimately good pack-in. It hid the Sega CD's weaknesses and, for the most part, showed that you could have a similar experience on their console for a lot cheaper.
Funny that both consoles ended up bombing anyway, though.

This is another one of those that just ended up being a colossal pain to record, but I ended up getting it in the end. I originally had this game on the Saturn and, because I didn't have a light gun, I stuck with Die Hard 1 and enjoyed it quite a bit. Why not 3? Because it's terrible, that's why. The driving is so broken that it's more frustrating than fun.
It's a neat concept and I'd love to see a single, more focused game based on Die Hard 1's gameplay. I had a lot of fun with it. It's not perfect and it's broken in its own way, but it's broken in a charming way.

This is one of those games that doesn't feel like an NES game sometimes. It feels like a Master System or, appropriately due to its counterpart, a PC Engine game. The NES needed an injection of that into its library and that's why it was such an amazing console. There's something about that loose arcadey gameplay that was often missing.

A Spidey brawler right in the middle of the golden age of beat em ups. Sega was behind it, it's 4 players, and you can even play as Namor. It has a dynamic camera system that varies from fighting on the streets to crawling across a vast rooftop jungle...
So why does this game suck?
I'm willing to bet that there's a Spidey centric Beats of Rage game out there. No, not the Infinity War one. Just Spidey. And I'm willing to bet that it's 10x better than this.
This is just...awkward. It could work as a beat em up, but not as Spidey. You get zero sense of speed, agility, maneuverability, web swinging...it's all missing and you feel like a barely animated mannequin. I don't care what villains show up, I'm playing Captain America and the Avengers. Sorry, Goukuma.

It kind of looks like a level expansion of the original game, but it's really not. It's just better in every way even though it really is the same game. It's just designed a bit better, leans on its strengths more, and is much more focused. It's something I could actually sit down and play through, unlike the first game.

I was pretty impressed with the GBA entry in this series that I played for this demo reel, but this is a little less impressive at first. It picks up later on as the road conditions really affect your driving, but I find that the lack of other cars sharing the road with you makes any opposition feel token and just a small obstacle. I know, that's common with most 8-bit driving games, but it is a shame.

A game that screams MSX more than anything, and that's because it was ported from it. Sure, the Master System could have done more with it if it wanted to but when you've got a game ready to go, sometimes you just roll with it. I wanted to dislike this game, but the mark of a good game is when it makes you want to challenge yourself further. And...that was me. I was first trying to see if there was a second power up, but I couldn't stay alive long enough to collect two. When I finally did, I just kept going and I think when I realized I was doing well, I jinxed myself.

I can't wait to see what this looked like on the microcomputers.
So let me begin by saying that I could not figure out how to use bombs. I may have skipped that one single text bubble while playing. I'll have to try again, but just know that bombs are totally there.
This is definitely one that will stick out in the minds of anyone who ever played it. It has an extremely distinct style that no one really forgets. It really is a fun game and you get a lot out of it after some practice. The enemies just keep coming, though, so staying on the move is the key to not getting bogged down. What's also key is having your orientation correct, because it's one of those weird perspective games that doesn't let you feel oriented even if it's not slanting your movement, too.

It's a short video because this really looks like this is all the game has to offer. I could be very wrong, but talk about empty. 6 minutes and nothing has happened, plus I'm already tired of wandering aimlessly in this castle. No special abilities, no map, no loot, no powerups...there's just nothing here. Definitely nothing crazy.
The title screen says it all. It's a licensed title for Universal to promote one of their Monsters. If they really needed help doing that, I have so many more ideas than whatever this is. I actually still think they need the help.
