A closer look at my cheap soldering station (and some upgrades)
I have been using the cheapest soldering station I could find (Baku 601D) for a couple of years now, and I finally got around to taking a look inside and doing a couple of easy upgrades.
Despite some people's misgivings and annoyance at this cheap unit, it hasn't given me any real problems in the 2 years I've had it.
When I looked at that signal generator last week the only problem I had with it was the lack of case. So I'm gonna make my own.
This is a nice simple project that can be used as a case for any size of project or module. It doesn't need any exotic tools, so anyone should be able to give it a try.

I got curious about the cheap panel mount voltmeters i got in a recent mailbag, so what else is there to do. Time to tear it apart and see what's inside.
Here's the Wiki article about Charlieplexing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlieplexing

Have you ever wondered what's in those "45 in one sensor kit for Arduino" sets you can find on ebay (and other places)?
Me too, so I got one to look at.
While there is quite a bit of overlap in some of the sensors, there is a good variety for learning and experimenting how your Arduino can interact with the real world.
I have done several videos in the past that feature (and go deeper into) a few similar modules:

I've always kinda wondered what magic is inside one of these "smart" cell boosters. So when i spotted one (or at least part of one) on the trash heap, i couldn't resist grabbing it and tearing it apart for our amusement and ... education(?).
Here's a bit of information about it, right from the source:

Welcome to my December kit build extravaganza.
For the first instalment I have 2 small kits in the same video. Both kits came from Patrick in Quebec (actually from his e-bay shop - links below)
Both were fun little kits to put together, and interesting takes on classic circuits.
The first is an interesting variant on the classic joule thief circuit.

And the second is a 555 based sine wave generator.

It's December, so tradition says it's time for a Christmas themed project.
This year I'm using some WS2811 strings, a Wemos D1 mini (clone) and a few other bits and pieces to make a remotely controllable addressable Christmas lighting system for my house.
The code that my teenager made for this project is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XWei2Cr51wIMH5OODcfgmEU0S8XnQro7
