After venturing in the sewers defeating some Neo Plasma Grunts, return to the surface and Burgh will return to the gym. Castelia City’s gym is different where you’ll go through silk to the next floor. Make your way through the silk pipes and you’ll see Burgh. Burgh uses Bug type Pokémon. In Challenge Mode, Dwebble is given a Sitrus Berry while Swadloon is replaced by Shelmet and Karrablast. Dwebble will speed up by using Rock Polish and strike multiple times with Rock Blast. Shelmet will use Curse to become more defenseful but slower along with Mega Drain to steal HP from opponents. Karrablast will use Headbutt to make opponents flinch along with the never missing Aerial Ace. Leavanny will use Grasswhistle to put opponents to sleep and Razor Leaf for critical hits. After the battle, you’ll receive the Insect Badge and a TM76 (Struggle Bug). Struggle Bug strikes all opponents and lowers their Special Attack stat.

Wallace can only be battled in the Champions Tournament. His team is entirely Water type. Milotic holding a Rocky Helmet will use Scald to burn opponents and Icy Wind to slow opponents down. When low on HP, it will use Rest and the Marvel Scale ability will take effect to raise its Defense. Sharpedo will use Zen Headbutt to make targets flinch and Aqua Jet to strike first. Walrein will use Yawn to put opponents to sleep and Sheer Cold for a one-hit KO. Ludicolo will use Rain Dance to make its Swift Swim ability take effect and Giga Drain to steal HP from targets. Swampert will use Muddy Water to reduce the Accuracy stat of opponents. Starmie will use Signal Beam to confuse opponents. A move like Leaf Blade would be a decent move for this matchup.

When you go to Driftveil City, meet Charles there and he will introduce you to a Rotation Battle, where 3 Pokémon can inhabit the field and rotate. Sigilyph will use Light Screen to weaken special attack damage for 5 turns and Air Cutter for critical hits. Archen will use Quick Guard to protect its team from first strike moves along with Pluck to steal berries from foes. Tirtouga will use Aqua Jet to strike first and Wide Guard to protect its team from moves that strike multiple opponents. After the battle, explore the city a little.

After you have all 16 badges, you have access to go to Mt. Silver. Enter the Silver Cave and explore the area until you reach the deepest part of the cave. In the deepest part of the cave, you’ll meet the toughest trainer in the game, Red. Pikachu will use Charm to lower Attack power then use Thunder to paralyze targets as well as finish them off with Quick Attack. Espeon will use Reflect to weaken physical attack damage for 5 turns and use Mud-Slap to lower the target’s Accuracy. Snorlax will use Body Slam to paralyze targets and even use Snore after using Rest. Venusaur will combo by using Sunny Day and SolarBeam. When its HP runs low, it will use Synthesis to recover. Blastoise will combo by using Rain Dance and Surf. Its Blizzard can freeze opponents sometimes even while you’re battling with Grass types. When Charizard uses Fire Spin or when Blastoise uses Whirlpool, there’s no escape for 2-5 turns. The levels in this battle are very high so Mt. Silver is the key place to train before this battle.

Go to Ecruteak City and enter the Dance Theater. You’ll see 5 girls dressed in Kimono wardrobes. Naoko uses Flareon, Sayo uses Espeon, Zuki uses Umbreon, Kuni uses Vaporeon, and Miki uses Jolteon. After getting a Broken Sword from an Old Zora at the Coast of No Return, go back to the Restoration Hall and speak with Patch to play the mini-game again. Your mission is to knock the Hardhat Beetles into the holes before the cart rams into the Broken Sword. Pressing the switch will adjust the tracks so that the cart does not bump into the prize right away. After knocking all 8 Hardhat Beetles into the holes, Patch will give you the sword upgrade.

Kingdra will use Dragon Dance to speed up and Rest to restore HP with a Chesto Berry taking effect for once. Dragonite will use Outrage for brutal strikes that repeat for 2-3 turns and Extremespeed to strike first. Altaria will use a 3-way combo of Cotton Guard, Double Team, and Toxic. Salamence will use Draco Meteor with a Dragon Gem taking effect for once for massive damage but lowering its own Special Attack stat in the process. Druddigon will use Glare to paralyze opponents and Sucker Punch to strike first. Garchomp will use Swords Dance to power up and Fire Fang to burn foes. A move like Dragon Pulse would be just fine to attack the opponents.
