In this video, I show the process of modifying a twin bed frame I purchased on Amazon to be able to fit my truck bed. I had to do this because I didn't measure my truck bed first. Live and learn. Anyway if you want to avoid this make sure you always measure first. We got it modified and it works great. We still would have had to do a little welding even if I had done things right because we had to move one of the center supports to accommodate the wheel well. Here is the link to the bed frame if you are interested although I would recommend getting a regular twin instead of a twin XL as it will fit better. Amazon link: http://amzn.to/2nNomyU

This weekend was my birthday and my fiance' treated me to staying in my very first A-Frame Cabin. This cabin is located in Clarksville Tennesee which was close to some property we were considering buying. In this video, I give a tour of the A-Frame and show some of the property. We had the best time and really enjoyed the area. We also decided to put money down on the property. This will spur a very long series I will start on this channel with the development of the land. I will also be camping on the land while we build. If you would like to check out this beautiful A-Frame, you can find it here on Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/792326610551461601

Ever since we started planning our 18 day road trip out west, I had only asked to hike one place. The Blue Lakes Trail. I had heard about this trail through my Outside Magazine subscription and had to check it out for myself. The trail is relatively easy after the first mile but that mile is almost straight up. It is a well worn trail so getting lost is not an issue. The only real confusing part is trying to find the trail to the middle lake which my friend Jen tried twice and could not find it. I even tried to look it up on my Garmin Inreach Explorer + and had trouble as well. We ended up only seeing the lower lake but it was still a thrill to see such pristine water. This is a must do day hike and is only 6.6 miles out and back. I highly recommend it.

This is video of the Hemlock Cliffs Special Area and Trail in the Hoosier National Forest. This is a 1.2 mile trail that leads around and into a box canyon. Recently, I spent a night in the canyon and I went a little insane lol. You can look for that video right here: http://youtu.be/re_0Ese7D1k?list=UUsJvBW3d5gamJopfm1FeE0g
The canyon is an interesting mix of honey combed sandstone and the rocks can be very slippery when wet so use caution. There is a small trickle waterfall as you can see in the video. The beauty of this area is just phenomenal and I recommend you visit. It is located south of Patoka Lake. Here are directions and coordinates: From SR 237, take Union Chapel Road west 2.6 miles to the intersection with Eckert-Hatfield Roads. Continue on Hatfield Road 2.1 miles to parking area. GPS Coordinates: Lat- 38o 16' 38.777"N Long- 86o 32' 20.317"W
Lush vegetation is found along the cliffs, waterfalls and canyon floor. Hemlock, a tall evergreen with short needles and small cones, thrives in the canyon’s cool climate. Wintergreen, a rare plant, is also found here. Wild geranium, French’s shooting star, mountain laurel, and liverwort are some of the other plants of interest found here.
The trail can get steep but overall it is a nice hike with a really great landscape to view.

I took a trip to southern Indiana to do a day hike at Charlestown State Park. The park sits right on the Ohio River and is a really neat park. Part of it used to be an Army Ammunition manufacturing area during WWII and another section used to be home to an amusement park in the 1920s. The Great Depression and a flood in 1937 devastated the amusement park business. I wanted to find the structures left over from the park but ran out of time. I will return some day soon to seek it out. I highly recommend this awesome state park.

When I first got started, one of my worries was getting lost and not having cell phone charge to make sure I could call for help or at least use the GPS to reorient myself. The solution I came up with was this back up battery and solar panel I bought on ebay. Together, they were about $40.
These are not necessarily essential items but could give a new hiker or backpacker some peace of mind when getting started. They are also pretty easy on the wallet.
