INFO: Kyuss was one of the definitional metal bands to come out of the desert rock scene back in the late 80s and early 90s. Instead of the staccato riffs typical of metal at the time, they created more groove based metal that borrowed more from psychedelic rock and blues. It was quite outstanding at the time and they quickly grew in popularity in just a few short years. They released four studio albums, but decided to disband in 1996 because of an unstable line-up and artistic differences. Many of the original members went on to join and create new bands. But Kyuss resurfaced under other band names in the future, then disappeared again. Sadly, none of the new incarnations of Kyuss lasted very long. But the side-effect of their short-lived presence is the rise of the stoner- and desert rock community. A passionate congregation of bands, scenes, forums and influencers that to this day keep the sound that Kyuss originally created alive and well. In this video i’ll introduce you to the brief history of Kyuss. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pmG57vFfGM

Today i'm reviewing Elliott Smiths 1994 record "Either/Or". Elliott Smith is a multi instrumentalist who sadly died in 2003 at the young age of 34. He created music that dwelled within the genres of indie-rock, pop, folk and Lo-fi. Either/Or is by many considered to be his breakthrough album - i personally really liked it!

INFO: Elliott Smith was an American singer-songwriter and musician from Omaha, Nebraska. His vocal style was often referred to as a "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery" as you can definately hear on Either/Or. He started his solo career in 1994 after playing in a band called Heatmiser from 1991. During his lifetime he released and recorded a total of 5 records, most of which were greatly acclaimed.

INFO: The Downward Spiral was the second album by industrial rock and metal band Nine Inch Nails. It’s now 25 years since it was released and most fans agreed that it’s one of those albums that hasn’t aged a day since its release. The music on here is so dark, evocative and timeless that it stands out from everything i’ve ever listened to. It features a mix of metal, rock, techno and industrial music that cuts deeper for every listen. The sound was influenced by 70s rock like David Bowie’s Low and Pink Floyd’s The Wall. But trust me, it doesn’t sound anything like those albums. If the debut album Pretty Hate Machine catapulted band leader Trent Reznor to the front of alternative rock, The Downward Spiral turned him from a celebrity to a legend. But what exactly makes the album so outstanding?

Video info: Jimmy Page was the one who wrote lyrics for the entire first Led Zeppelin album. And it wasn’t until the second album that he managed to convince Plant to join in. Plant soon developed a clear set of directions in his lyrics. Sexuality on one hand and storytelling on the other. Specifically nordic and whelsh mythology caught his interest. In this video we’ll talk about Led Zeppelin’s musicianship and Robert Plant’s fascination with northern mythology.

INFO: The Desert Sessions is a musical collective and the original idea of Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. As a matter of fact it was formed in 1997, just a year after Queens. Homme always believed in the idea of creating and being a part of something different and classic in music by inviting other talented musicians for collaborations. Now you might think ‘sure, who doesn’t want to create music that sounds different and classic?’ But what makes Homme different is his approach to this creative process. The idea is simple. Invite a group of musicians, all from different backgrounds into the California desert, get to know each other despite personal differences and finally, have an open mind to explore new creative ideas together. It essentially sounds like a summer camp for musicians.
It’s been 16 years since the project last put out an album, but now they’re back with two new volumes. And like every other Josh Homme fan, i can't wait to give them a listen. In this video i’ll give you a brief introduction to the project’s early history, creative philosophy and some behind-the-curtain facts about their upcoming album release.
