In this video, I'm not offering tips on violins, baroque violins, violas, or violoncellos da spalla. In fact, I'm not speaking at all. However, there's a message in these silent video snippets that may provide some value to you. Life and music share a common space for individual uniqueness, self-reliance, courage, teamwork, swift decision-making, meticulous planning, and 'skippering' one's journey. Just as I guide luthiers and musicians in finding their unique voice, I did the same for my son amidst the waves and winds. He came to understand, with a little help from me, that he can't change the winds, tides, or currents, but he can adjust his sails. During rough weather, it's not fear or paralysis that ensures safety, but skill and very specific actions. Together, we covered nearly 2000 nautical miles, each mile representing a step in our shared journey of growth. Our destination in this trip was the beautiful island of Terschelling, a place echoing our values. The journey was more than reaching a destination; it was about the lessons we learned along the way. Lessons in self-sufficiency, planning, decision-making, empathy, and shared experiences. From weathering squalls to relishing peaceful sunsets, this journey had it all. Whether you're a violinist, a violist, or both or a a luthier, or a young life lover, these lessons are invaluable, especially if you've weathered metaphorical storms in your life. Music is like the sea. It demands self-sufficiency, courage, responsibility, creativity, swift decision-making, teamwork, and respect for individual uniqueness that fosters personal growth and total trust.
