Cyberattack hits websites of Ukraine defense ministry and armed forces
(CNN)A hit the websites of Ukraine's defense ministry and armed forces. and the websites of two Ukrainian banks on Tuesday. according to Ukrainian government agencies' statements. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the hacking incident. 'It's too early to attribute' responsibility. Victor Zhora. a deputy chairman at the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (SSSCIP) who is investigating the incident told CNN. The incident comes as Russia has massed an estimated 150.000 troops close to Ukraine's border. according to United States President Joe Biden. and as US officials warn that a fresh Russian invasion could come at any time. Russia has denied it is planning to invade Ukraine. SSSCIP identified the incident as a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. which floods a website with phony traffic to disrupt access to it. DDoS attacks are relatively cheap and easy to carry out. While they can be disruptive. they do not necessarily require sophistication. Ukrainian officials said that by 7:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. ET) access to the websites of the banks PrivatBank and Oschadbank had been restored. CNN journalists in Ukraine reported difficulty accessing the websites of the defense agencies Tuesday night. Ukrainian government officials 'continue to monitor and cut off' the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from which the hackers are flooding Ukrainian websites with traffic. Zhora said. DDoS attacks can be difficult to trace to their source as hackers can spoof their locations to make it seem they are in a country they are not. Matt Tait. a cybersecurity expert and former information security specialist with the UK government's signals intelligence agency. said the DDoS attack appears to 'be part of a general campaign of harassment and demoralization against the public encouraged by the Russian government.' 'That said. this is quite distinct from military/kinetic cyberattacks that might be used in direct conflict. such as to disable utilities or achieve direct military objectives.' Tait told CNN. 'For this reason. I would urge caution in seeing this event as a direct precursor to invasion.' A separate cyberattack hit Ukrainian government websites last month. Ukrainian officials suggested Russian and Belarusian involvement. but investigators have not formally blamed those countries for the cyberattack.

State Department hits back at Russia 'propaganda.' says troops moving 'into fighting positions'
The State Department on Wednesday hit back on Russian claims that it is reducing its troop size along the Ukrainian border and said the U.S. is concerned by the 'great deal of propaganda and disinformation.' Earlier this week Russian officials claimed that it would be reducing its force size along Ukraine’s border after amassing roughly 150.000 troops and deploying 30.000 soldiers into neighboring Belarus. MOSCOW LOOKS TO SEVER MINSK AGREEMENTS AS RUSSIA. UKRAINE CONFLICT PERSISTS But despite claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed Tuesday. the U.S. and NATO have said they have seen no such efforts. 'We have seen the opposite.' State Department press secretary Ned Price told reporters Wednesday. 'In recent days more Russian forces — not fewer — are at the border. and they are moving … into fighting positions.' 'This is cause for profound concern.' he said. Russia on Tuesday released images depicting trailers being loaded up with tanks and military equipment. but Price said these images are just one element in the Kremlin’s disinformation campaign. 'Over the past several weeks. we’ve also seen Russian officials and Russian media plant numerous stories in the press — any one of which could be elevated to serve as a pretext for an invasion.' Price said. The press secretary laid out a litany of falsified stories that have made their way into the news cycle. as well as stories that security officials are worried Russia could use. 'It could involve claims about Ukrainian military activity in the Donbas. false claims of U.S. or NATO activities on land. at sea or air — even claims of Ukrainian or NATO incursions into Russian territory.' Price said. NATO CHIEF CONTRADICTS RUSSIA WITHDRAWAL CLAIMS. SAYS NO PROOF OF PULLING BACK Putin baselessly alleged on Tuesday that 'genocide' was being committed against ethnic Russians in the Donbas region in Ukraine. an area that Russia invaded in 2014 and has since backed militarily. Moscow on Wednesday then claimed to have found mass graves in Donbas. 'These allegations are entirely. completely false.' Price said. 'There is no basis of truth in any of these allegations.' The Kremlin’s attention this week has shifted to the Donbas region. located in Ukraine’s most eastern flank. and Putin is set to consider severing the international Minsk agreements by recognizing two breakaway regions in Donbas as 'independent.' The State Department warned Putin this would prompt a 'firm response' from the U.S. and NATO and would 'constitute a gross violation of international law.' 'There are Russian words and then there are Russian actions.' Price said. 'This is the Russian playbook.' 'They seek to obscu

Sony unveils the open style Link Buds with Google Assistant. Fast Pair. and skin touch controls
There are a lot of users out there who don’t mind setting their earbuds to ambient mode and going on with their lives. With the Sony Link Buds. that seems to be the main focus. For a company that has a track record of very matter of fact product names. the Link Buds come as a nice surprise. Not only that. but the Link Buds are nowhere near conventional. truly wireless earbuds. Rather than a closed earbud design. the Link Buds are comprised of a ring style driver and an offset compartment for internals. like Sony’s V1 Integrated Processor. While the Link Buds don’t take advantage of Sony’s LDAC technology – which is Sony’s tech for converting Bluetooth signal into Hi Res Audio – these buds are meant to reproduce audio clearly and meld it together with real life. hence the open design. This is done with DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology. which unpacks the music and restores it to full quality after being compressed and sent via Bluetooth. With this approach. the Link Buds don’t have noise cancellation or any form of ANC because they simply aren’t supposed to. Possibly one of the coolest features the Link Buds have to offer might be the method of input. Rather than relying on touch controls. which get in the way when adjusting your earbuds. Link Buds make use of something Sony calls “Wide Area Tap.” which senses when you tap the skin in front of your ear for input. If this feature works as well as we hope it does. it could be a viable replacement for touch controls on modern earbuds. Even better. Sony has equipped the Link Buds with automatic volume control. which (depending on how well it works) could be a fantastic addition. The Sony Link Buds also make use of Google Fast Pair. allowing for seamless setup as well as the ability to locate them when misplaced. Additionally. Google Assistant is available as your go to virtual helper. The Link Buds can also last about 5.5 hours on a single charge or up to 17.5 hours with the case. All of this is packed into the cool new open ring design comes at a pretty penny – $179.99 on Sony’s website. as well as pre order on Amazon and Best Buy. Weekend horrors show NYC must have new crime policy
Another weekend. another raft of horrors: How many will it take for the Democrats who run the Legislature to pass the modest reforms Mayor Eric Adams requests? On Sunday. police say. career criminal Assamad Nash stalked and stabbed to death Christina Yuna Lee. 35. in her Chinatown apartment. with chilling footage captured on security cameras. Nash has racked up at least 10 arrests since 2012. Saturday night saw two men shot fatally in The Bronx. Friday brought a shoplifting incident turned violent in Manhattan as the thief attacked a female Duane Reade employee. plus an apparent anti Jewish hate crime in Brooklyn. Driving it all is the progressive soft on crime ideology. district attorneys committed to not enforcing the law and legislators determined to keep lawbreakers out of jail. Christina Yuna Lee’s alleged killer. as noted. has a long rap sheet for petty crime. He was most recently arrested in January for damaging MetroCard machines across Manhattan. Prior to that. he was released after allegedly punching a man in a subway station. In short. a textbook example of someone graduating from small crimes to large. And meeting no real resistance along the way. (He may be mentally ill. but New York’s progressives are committed to keeping the dangerously troubled on the streets. too.) Lawmakers and pols know the policies now in place enable crime. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has...
