Today I’m testing how fast water transfers from a full Smart water bottle to an empty Smart water bottle.
The results surprised me.
The normal couple was way faster and easier. The tornado tube required me to swirl the water to create the vortex. It’s not really easy to do.
At first I thought I’d leave the tornado tube home but then I tested water pressure leaving the full bottle with both the coupler and tornado tube. The pressure coming out of the tornado tube was significantly higher than the coupler. I will use that combo to backflush my water filter.

Today was WINDY! The Zpacks Duplex weighs very little and the Dyneema fabric acts like a sail so when it's windy, be prepared to catch the tent. For some reason I lost the last part of the video but you see most of it.
The Zpacks Duplex is a two person tent made out of Dyneema (Cuban Fiber). It is waterproof and lightweight (just over 1 pound). It's perfect for backpacking. If it is humid out or raining, you may get condensation inside the tent. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation going and that will help eliminate it. I like it because I normally backpack by myself and this allows me to have my backpack inside the tent at night instead of outside or sitting in the vestibule. There are two vestibules so if you do have two people in the tent, each person can get out of the tent through their own screen door and vestibule.

Severe weather predictions caused me to delay my 2022 start of the AT for one day but since the AT is 1/4 mile from my hotel, I decided to hike about 4 miles of it by Carlisle, PA. today before the storms roll through.

On the anniversary of 911, let's step back and enjoy today's moment with nature. Today shows a doe with her fawn and then a 10-Point Buck. There's also another fawn that had somehow looped a garland of green around its neck.

We visited the Cheyenne Zoo on the side of the Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado and watched the handlers feeding the wolves. It was pretty cool.

Well, I hiked the AT in Georgia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania but...
I'm off trail now. Why? I started the AT in 2021 at the age of 67 and something told me to come home. I did and two months later I had to have a quadruple bypass. I recovered, exercised, got back in shape and decided to go back to the AT in 2022 but start NOBO from Harpers Ferry, WV. I started at the end of May. I got into Maryland and the heat and humidity became oppressive. My heart seemed to be doing OK but I knew the heat would remain in the mid 90's for the next three days so I made a decision not to push my heart any harder. I knew I could come home and hike in cooler weather for some fun backpacking trips. Why torture your body when you are 68 years old, which I am now? I still feel that I can offer some really good advice to others who aspire to become backpackers so my videos will continue. I hope all of you enjoyed and learned something from all the backpacking and gear videos I have done. Thank you for being there for me and until we meet again...Peace!

Blew a rod bearing after the Woodward Cruise. Pulled the engine and transmission and totally rebuilt the engine and transmission. Installed it and started it and there was a major engine oil leak. Forgot to insert a bolt in one spot where the Magneto had been removed. Had to remove the transmission cover, insert a new bolt with sealer and reinstall the transmission cover. No easy task. This is the 2nd engine start on December 31, 2008 after it was all back together. This time it was successful!
