COUNTRY VINTAGE MALL HUNTING | GROUP ANTIQUING | SHOP WITH US We may be exhausting the offerings of one small Midwest town, but there’s another town right up the road…and a good backwoods shop in between! Down a drippy country road, we find a surprisingly large antique shop with specialties in a lot of true antique and older vintage collectibles. What a selection of collections! If there’s one miniature oil lamp…or crock…or tobacco tin…or spice tin…or mixing bowl…well, there’s 10 or 20 or 30 more to satisfy serious collectors. One in our midst hits the jackpot, when a pile of Rushton and related rubber faced 1950s santas appear at old-time prices that make them a buy today! Meanwhile, we enjoy a lot of Victorian and early 20th century midwest home and store goods, and I find my own old-time priced item that registers as a reseller deal in today’s collecting world. We still have one more round left in us, so the race is on to Vincennes, Indiana, a surprisingly old town that was once part of Canada! Shaker’s Landing is a hybrid of antique mall, frame shop and furniture restoration center, a nice multi-service combination store that used to be more common in the antique world. But it’s the smalls that capture our attention, and elicit some helpful hints and clever ideas! What do you do with an orphaned uranium glass candlestick holder? What do you do when someone thoughtlessly sticks the price tag right on the cardboard sign? What 146 pound item is riddled with mouse holes? We wrestle these weighty topics in this episode together. Surprise ANTIQUE STORE Stop | SHOP WITH ME | VINTAGE FINDS Deja Vu? This giant vintage warehouse mall seems familiar, but things have changed since we visited its downstairs last year! New management has opened an entire new level in the upstairs of this newly renamed store, a treasure trove where we hope to find familiar antiques and vintage our collectors want at prices we can flip for a profit! Bigfoot says to believe in ourselves, and we believe we will find something good here! Vintage values abound, including radios, a McCoy pottery collection, even a Twin Towers mug priced less than 1/3 of retail. We contemplate the profit potential in parting out a set of Franciscan Autumn Leaves, and wish we could restore Mercury's wings on a beautiful 1890s Ansonia spelter clock. We also look for fakes and mistakes during this shopping trip, in hopes that we can help other collectors and resellers steer clear of mistakes! We show how to spot depression glass forgeries, talk about the ethics of new Black Americana, and encourage comparison between American made and offshore cookie jars from the 1990s to see the difference in quality. These real world antiquing excursions are a fun way to get hands-on learning about these cool vintage items!
